AL 2025 Rankings Update: Preseason Update

PBR Alabama Staff

With the conclusion of the off-season and the spring season set to get underway in just a few short days, our staff has updated the state's 2025 Rankings for the first time in 2023. Though there's not much shakeup on this new board, we have expanded the rankings by a handful of names, rising and adding a few names as a result.

Below you'll learn more about these updated rankings for the state's current sophomore class, including more information on prospects that climbed and those who debuted for the first time.

Top Risers & Notable Debuts

+ LHP/1B Jackson Stallworth (Stanhope Elmore, 2025) makes a big jump to inside the Top-25 in this update after being one of the top performers at January's South AL Preseason All-State. The two-way prospect was thoroughly impressive in multiple facets, both at the plate and on the mound at the event. Standing 6-foot-1, 215-pounds with room for added strength, Stallworth was one of the first hitters to take his round of BP in the offensive portion of the workout and showed intriguing pull-side power hitting from the left side. Looking to lift and drive the ball with nearly each swing, the sophomore showed some of the best bat speed at the event and has the potential to be a significant power threat. On the mound, there's just as much, if not more, to like. The southpaw operated around 83-85 mph mostly with his fastball and reached 86.8 mph towards the end of his outing. Showed some feel for two breaking ball, one being a firmer slider at 73-75 mph (2300 rpm) and the other being a curveball at 68-70 mph more vertical, 1-7 break. The ball comes out the hand fairly effortlessly thanks to a strong frame that will only continue to develop.

+ SS/RHP Brady Richardson (Enterprise, 2025) continues to one-up his prior performances and raise his stock with each viewing. Richardson, a Troy recruit who makes the jump to No. 10 in this update, has made noticeable strides to his frame in terms of added physicality and strength, and now stands 6-foot-0, 195-pounds. Richardson was easily one of the top performers from the offensive portion of the South AL Preseason All-State, posting a mature round of BP while being on the barrel with nearly every swing. The right-hander, who also ran one of the best 60 YD's from the event at 6.94, uses controlled aggression and stays synched up efficiently with present bat speed to hit for some power. He repeats his swing well and drove balls consistently to the pull-side gap during his round of BP, resulting in a top EV at 96.9 mph. Richardson also showed some pitch-ability on the mound, working his fastball up to 83 mph with solid secondaries. Another strong day for one of the top prospects in the sophomore class.

+ RHP/SS Luke Holbrook (Whitesburg Christian, 2025) makes a big leap into the Top-30 after an impressive showing at last month's North AL Preseason All-State. The sophomore has already shown the ability to produce at the varsity level at such a young age after being his high school team's ace last spring and throwing a no-hitter, but what intrigued us most at the event was he has continued to develop and fill into his 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame. The sophomore right-hander also poured in strikes with a quality three-pitch mix during his bullpen, and worked his fastball up to 86 mph with much more on the way. Holbrook's slider showed typical, late break to it and mixed in slight fade to his changeup as secondary offerings. He has a quick, well-paced delivery with a soft landing and present athleticism in his operation on the mound.

+ 1B Dylan Ackerman (Daphne, 2025) was one of our favorite hitters at any of the four preseason events we held last month and makes his debut in this update. Ackerman, a strong left-hander hitter with a 6-foot-2, 185-pound frame, seemed to make firm contact with nearly every pass he took during his round of BP at the South AL Preseason All-State. The left-hander belted deep drives to the pull-side, generating easy pop off the barrel using advanced bat and hand speed for his age. He stays balanced well throughout his swing and looks to create damage to both gaps with each swing. The sophomore also took a clean round of infield at first base defensively with sure hands and fair footwork.

+ C/SS Fuller Chisholm (Saraland, 2025) makes his debut after emerging as another quality backstop in a sophomore class that is littered deep with talented catchers up and down the list. Chisholm, however, showed he can bring much more to the table outside of being a solid defensive catcher with versatility playing multiple positions at last month's South AL Preseason All-State. The sophomore right-hander took some reps at shortstop during the defensive workout and showed clean footwork and good hands up the middle with an accurate arm. Chisholm also handled the bat well from the right side during BP, while spraying line drives to the pull side in his round. The right-hander has fair bat speed and seems to have quality feel for the barrel with each swing.
