Uncommitted 2021's in Alabama

PBR Alabama Staff

The past few days have seen a large number of very talented players across the state sign their scholarship papers and we wish all of those players the best in their upcoming high school season and in their college careers. The 2021 class is a very deep class with a large number of quality players still uncommitted as the high school season gets closer. Today, we take a look at 16 of those players that are still uncommitted, but should find a home to play after high school.

Uncommitted Players

Slate Alford 3B / Bob Jones, AL / 2021

The one time Auburn commit is a big time hitter that shows serious juice at the plate. Advanced makeup as a hitter and is more than just a guy with pop. Has a patient approach at the plate from a slightly open stance but does a good job of staying "synched up" and using his powerful lower half. Creates some tilt in his swing and can go deep to all parts of the field. Could eventually move across the diamond to 1B.

Colby Hutto SS / RHP / West Morgan, AL / 2021

6-foot-1, 175-pound athletic frame. During batting practice, Hutto displayed an exit velocity of 92 mph, showing his strength and power ability. Starts in an athletic stance. Has simple swing plane, quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Pull side approach. Showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 88 mph; showed a clean exchange, soft hands and athletic feet. Had consistent accuracy to the bag and a very quick arm action. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.6. Confident on the mound, has quick arm speed and throws from a high ¾ arm angle. Uses some effort in his delivery. a clean finish. Threw his fastball 84-85 mph with a max of 86 mph; showed running action with heavy movement. Had control low in the zone and swing and miss action on his 12/6 curveball (69-70). Hutto has really exploded of late as evidenced by the numbers he posted at the event.

Webb Veronese SS / 2B / Auburn , AL / 2021

Veronese really jumped out to our scouts this spring when watching Auburn play. 6 foot-180 pound frame that moves well around the diamond. Toe-tap load at the dish and looks to drive the ball to the opposite field gap, as demonstrated below. Solid glove work at shortstop, made all the routine plays during gameplay.

Cameron Snypes 1B / OF / UMS-Wright, AL / 2021

6-foot-3, 210-pound mature frame. At the plate, the left-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 86 mph. Begins in a balanced stance with a smooth load, then uses a quick stride. Has quick bat speed and good extension on his finish. Had a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Pull side approach. In the infield, displayed a velocity of 74 mph; has a clean exchange and soft hands. Had consistent accuracy. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.78. A '21 LH bat that will be a nice addition to an offensive lineup in years to come. Stays on plane very well through the hitting zone.

Cade Morgan SS / 2B / Hueytown , AL / 2021

At the Excel Scout Day he put together one of the more consistent rounds of BP, as he showed the ability to mash balls to the pull side. 95 mph EV. Ran a 6.89 laser-timed 60 YD. Really like the actions from the multi year starter at Hueytown HS.

Jack Hoppenjans RHP / OF / Vestavia Hills, AL / 2021

The RHP stands a sturdy 6-foot-3, 200 pounds on the mound. Works primarily 86-88 mph, paired w/ a hard 11/5 breaker that he can land for strikes in any count. Really high projection with dynamic arm speed.

Jake Derecki OF / 1B / Oak Mountain, AL / 2021

6-foot-2, 200-pound athletic frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 102 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Started in a crouched stance and used a controlled stride. Bat speed is quick and exhibits uphill swing plane. He found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. From the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 79 mph; showed a natural exchange and sure hands. Had a high ¾ slot and consistent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.89.

Eli Steadman OF / 3B / Briarwood Christian , AL / 2021

5-foot-11, 180-pound athletic frame. In the box, the left-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 87 mph. Starts in a crouched stance with a controlled stride. Bat speed was quick, and used simple swing plane. In the round he found lots of barrels with loud contact. Line drive approach. Chandler Brewer OF / 1B / Hazel Green , AL / 2021

The OF actions are solid and he has no trouble working through his throws to the plate. Does a nice job of resetting the feet after the catch. Athletic enough to also play 1B. Has a very disciplined approach at the plate from an even stance . The swing stays short with a level bat path and a leg kick approach. Has some big time juice to the RCF gap. Physical bat.

Will Varmette RHP / 1B / Grissom , AL / 2021

6-foot-1, 175-pound. Raw on the mound, where he showed electric arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle and a very quick arm action. Sat with his fastball at 86-88 mph and topped out at 90 mph; had running action and decent control. Had control around the zone and hard action on his sharp curveball (71-74). Had arm side control and late action on his changeup

Jackson Lindsey OF / 1B / Russellville, AL / 2021

Really like the offensive approach of this ‘21. Very balanced and quiet in the box and the hands work with ease. No wasted action in the approach and swing but there is strength in the swing. Very balanced, well synced swing with nice extension through contact. The middle of the field approach has gap to gap power from a tilted swing plan and the swing looks easy. Showed advanced defensive ability at 1B, moving well around the bag. Did a nice job coming off the bag to start a 3-6 and also worked well through the throw across the diamond. Really like the bat of this ‘21 grad.

Chase Christian OF / RHP / Pelham, AL / 2021

Athletic OF that shows plus bat speed and impressive Trackman numbers (94.74 exit speed) that also has plus speed, running a 6.68 this summer. Shows some quick twitch actions and some physicality on the diamond. Very athletic player.

Matthew Omohundro 3B / RHP / Dothan, AL / 2021

Athletic infielder with fluid feet  and nice glove work. Flexibility in the hips and plenty of arms straight across the diamond. On the mound his fastball was up to 83  with some cut to it. Athletic, strong lower half. Offensively he was 92 exit velocity off of a tee from a slightly open stance. Has some tilt in the bat path and does a nice job of getting his backside into his approach. Big-time juice at the plate. And impressive looking 2021 prospect.

Jakob Lewis 2B / OF / Sparkman, AL / 2021

5-foot-10, 170-pound athletic frame. At the plate, the switch hitter's 90 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Begins in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then uses a leg kick before his swing. Had quick bat speed, level swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels during his rounds. Base hit approach. In the infield, his position velocity was registered at 78 mph; had quick fluid footwork, consistent hands and a fluid exchange. Showed decent accuracy. The athletic recruit showcased his speed with a sub-seven 60 time of 6.4. Looking for a "plus" skill, look no farther than the 6.40 60 yard dash but he has plenty of other nice attributes on the field.

Cade Horton 1B / 3B / Bibb County, AL / 2021

6-foot-2, 220-pound physical frame. At the plate, the right-handed hitter's 94 mph exit velocity showed his ability to drive the ball with power. Started in a balanced stance with a quick load, then used a short stride just before his swing. Has explosive bat speed, upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Produced loud contact during the round. Pull side approach. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.7. The bat has some serious thunder to the pull side.
