Arizona Scouting Director

The Team Emery Classic is a varsity baseball tournament for local high school baseball teams to benefit Gabi McLenna. Gabi is a current 18-year-old from Gilbert, Arizona who was diagnosed with brain cancer in March of 2022. In early 2022, Gabi began to experience severe headaches, and after 3-4 weeks of these headaches, Gabi was diagnosed with brain cancer.

In this scout blog Arizona PBR will cover some of the top prospects seen at this past weekend's Emery Classic. We want to take the time to thank team Emery for having us out to not only cover the baseball side of things, but to be a part of a great cause. standout prospects

Max Charles SS / OF / Liberty, AZ / 2024

6-foot-3 195 pound and Top Uncommitted prospect in the 2024 class did not disappoint this weekend at the Emery Classic. Going up against the top high schools in the state, Charles had it rolling in Friday night's game against top ranked Hamilton. Leading up to Thursday’s game Charles has been known to be one of the most polished hitters in the country and it showed. The smooth swinging lefty showed his aggressiveness in the box driving two singles up the middle. In the field Charles profiles as a SS/3B with a clean glove and above average arm across. The #1 player in the 2024 class in the state of Arizona is a high follow as he goes into his junior season at Liberty High School.

Ryan Harwood 1B / OF / Casteel, AZ / 2025

6-foot-2 215 pound uncommitted 2026 grad, Harwood is perhaps the most intriguing player we came across at this year's Emery Classic. Being only 15 years old and going into his Freshman season at Casteel, Harwood showed that he will have no issues transferring into the High School scene this upcoming spring. The two-way prospect had a tall stance in the box, light lift and lightning hands that worked nicely through the zone producing 3 line drives with two resulting in extra-base hits in Sunday afternoons championship game at the Emery Classic.  Harwood spent this past summer facing some of the top arms at the national level for Team USA where he went on to close out the game on the mound bringing back the Gold Medal for team USA. Harwood is a high follow for the Arizona Staff as he goes into his Freshman year at Casteel.

Anthony Montez SS / 2B / Cienega, AZ / 2025

6-foot 170 pound uncommitted 2025 SS, Anthony Montez out of Cienega high school put his athleticism on display this past weekend at the Emery Classic. With 2 knocks in his game against Perry, the SS showed a quiet load with a middle of the field approach. Montez had the ability to work deep into counts with quality pitch selection, resulting in one of his hits coming with two strikes. Defensively Montez showed to be a leader on the field, having clean actions with the glove and the ability to gain ground side to side. Montez will be a high follow in the Tucson coverage this upcoming spring as he goes into his Sophomore season at Cienega.

Max Madrid OF / Basha High School , AZ / 2024

5-foot-10 185 pound uncommitted 2024 OF out of Basha High School put together an impressive weekend at the Emery Classic. Madrid has a great build with strength that showed at the plate, putting a good swing on a ball resulting in a rocket to the right center field gap in Friday night's matchup. While Madrid may not be the tallest guy on the field, his athleticism makes up for it, showcasing great speed in the outfield and the ability to run the bases at a high level. Madrid is a high energy type player that we look forward to following as he goes into his Junior season at Basha high school.

Alexander Dabrowski OF / RHP / Basha, AZ / 2023

6-foot-3 170 pound uncommitted 2023 OF out of Basha high school has made tremendous strides this summer going into his senior campaign. The lengthy righty showed a shoulder width stance, quiet toe lift load and good hands that produced a flat swing through the zone. In Friday night's game, Dabrowski had a double down the left field line and a base hit bunt showing off his speed down the line. With some improvement athletically we feel Dabrowski will be a high follow in the 2023 class moving forward as we look forward to following him this fall and into his spring season at Basha.

Payton Pudenz RHP / Red Mountain , AZ / 2023

The 5-foot-10 160 pound uncommitted 2023 RHP was a standout this past weekend at the Emery Classic. Pudenz worked a 3-pitch mix, with the confidence to throw any pitch in any count for strikes. Working the FB at the bottom of the zone with some good sink it ranged from 85-87 mph. With the FB being his stand out pitch his SL has good sweep to it and tunneled well off the FB. Pudenz has shown a great display of pitchability this summer. With not having an overpowering fastball he is able to keep hitters off-balanced and create a large amount of swing and miss. Pudenz is a high follow for the Arizona staff as we look forward to watching him this fall and spring at Red Mountain.

Andrew Jacobs RHP / OF / Liberty, AZ / 2025

The 6-foot-1 150 pound RHP out of Liberty High School was a standout pitcher and possibly the most intriguing player from the 2025 class at the Emery Classic. The lengthy righty showed a low ¾ slot arm action, with a FB ranging from 85-88 mph creating significant arm side run. On top of the FB, Jacobs had a sweeping SL that sat 70-72 tunneling nicely off his FB with the ability to throw for strikes and as a strikeout pitch. The uncommitted RHP is a high follow for the Arizona Staff as he goes into his sophomore season at Liberty high school.
