LOS ANGELES, CALIF.For the second consecutive year, the CIF-Southern Section high school baseball season will again kick off with the premier preseason high school baseball tournament in Southern California, the PBR California Preseason Invitational. The 16 team field will battle in a bracketed format with all games played at the Great Park in Irvine, California.

The field once again features some of the best teams and players from the CIF-SS. Defending champion Orange Lutheran seeks to repeat against a field that features 11 Division I playoff teams from a year ago, three Division II playoff teams including the champion, and a Division IV semifinalist that went 28-3 last season and is littered with college and draft prospects.

There’s depth to these programs with many players featured prominently in their respective class player rankings. For perspective, 8 of the top 24 players in the 2023 class, 7 of top 24 in 2024 class, 7 of top 2025 class, and 12 of top 50 in 2026 classes are represented on participating teams rosters. In addition to those highly ranked players, at least a dozen 2023 MLB Draft prospects will be in the field, including five of the top 12 players in the 2023 class.

“We are thrilled to once again assemble such a quality field of teams for this tournament” said Les Lukach, PBR California State Director. “We are so spoiled with baseball talent in this area and to be able to put together a field like we did this year is a testament to these programs' commitment to challenge themselves early in the season in preparation for what’s to come during the regular and postseasons. Additionally, to provide scouts an opportunity to see so many players in one location is great. Those guys work so darn hard chasing players over the course of a season it’s always nice being able to see multiple prospects at one site.”

There are several newcomers to the field in 2023 including Loyola and new head coach Keith Ramsey; Aquinas led by several Division I recruits and MLB prospect Eric Bitonti; El Dorado features one of it’s deepest rosters in recent years particularly on the mound; Servite with it’s roster of talented underclassmen also boast MLB draft prospect Roman Martin; Etiwanda fresh of off it’s CIF-SS Division II title has a deep, balanced, and talented roster; Norco features many quality players including MLB draft prospects Cameron Kim and Grant Gray; and Cypress comes in as one of the most respected programs in Southern California and features upwards of 10 Division I prospects.

Games will take place Saturday, February 11, Tuesday, February 14, Thursday, February 16, and Tuesday, February 21, 2023. All games will be played at the Great Park on all four baseball fields. Game times will be 3:00pm, 3:15pm, 3:30pm, 3:45pm, 6:30pm, 6:45pm, 7:00pm, 7:15pm. The Championship will take place in the Stadium on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at 7:15pm.
