2021 Junior State Games: West Region Analysis

The 2021 Junior State Games took place Saturday, October 16th and Sunday, October 17th at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The event featured players from the 2023 class representing their region of North, South, East, or West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

The weekend was full of talent from all 4 regions, but the East finished at the top going 3-0 throughout the event. To view all the stats from the event, check out our Stats Story. Today, we will continue with our Player Analysis breaking down each player's tools and projection through complete scouting reports. We will continue with the West Region. Take a look.

West Region Analysis

Tad Brooks 3B / RHP / Calvary Christian , FL / 2023

5-foot-11, 205-pound strong athletic frame. Above average at the plate, the right-handed hitter's 101 mph exit velocity ranks him 1st at the event. (72.47 mph bat speed average). (21.56 mph hand speed average). Begins in a tall stance with a small load, then uses a short toe tap stride. Has electric bat speed, short simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, his position velocity was registered at 82 mph; had consistent soft hands, smooth footwork, and a quick clean exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Had a quick arm action and a ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, recorded a 60 time of 7.33.

Keeton Burroughs SS / 2B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 150-pound athletic lean build. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 88 mph. (64.04 mph bat speed average). (19.00 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a small compact load, then uses a short leg kick. Has efficient bat speed, short simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. Produced some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Line drive approach. Smooth while in the infield, made throws up to 83 mph; had athletic footwork, a clean natural exchange, and soft consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a high ¾ slot and a quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.94.

Cooper Consiglio LHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

North Carolina State Commit, 6-foot, 175-pound strong athletic frame. Above average projectable on the mound, showed lightning arm speed, he had a ¾ arm angle and a loose arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Displays even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands square with an athletic finish. Threw his fastball 82-84 mph and topped out at 86 mph; showed command around the zone and slight running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2180; Avg 2049). Threw his tight curveball (70-72) with swing and miss action and down in the zone command. (Max spin 2390; Avg 2346). His sharp changeup (77-80) has fading swing and miss action and in the zone command. Had hard action and glove side command on his wipeout slider. (Max spin 2132; Avg 2132).

Hunter Dietz LHP / 1B / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 6-foot-6, 240-pound solid mature build. Above average projectable on the mound, showed quick arm speed, also used a long arm action with a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who shows easy effort. Has an athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Sat with his fastball at 87-90 mph with a max of 91 mph; showed command around the zone and hard running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2306; Avg 2177). Threw his tight curveball (70-73) with swing and miss action and down in the zone control. (Max spin 2171; Avg 2158). Had control around the zone and fading action on his sharp changeup (82-83). Andrew Duncan OF / RHP / A3 Academy, FL / 2023

Florida State Commit, 6-foot-1, 180-pound strong athletic frame. Above average projectable during batting practice, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 97 mph. (73.52 mph bat speed average). (20.46 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short leg kick. Bat speed was electric, showed a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap line drive approach. Above average projectable in the outfield, he showed a plus arm and had life on his throws with a position velocity of 94 mph; showed a quick clean exchange, athletic feet, and next level hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.22. Projectable on the mound, showing lightning arm speed he had a long arm action with a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 87-89 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows control around the zone and hard action. Trevor Harrison RHP / C / East Lake, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 205-pound solid athletic build. Solid on the mound, showing consistent arm speed he used a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands closed with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 82-84 mph and topped out at 86 mph; had command around the zone and slight running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2209; Avg 2075). Throws a tight curveball (62-67) that shows slurvey action and around the zone control. (Max spin 2141; Avg 1948).

Jaden Holder SS / 3B / Tampa Prep, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 160-pound lean athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Holder clocked an exit velocity of 93 mph. (58.54 mph bat speed average). (18.21 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a leg kick. Bat speed was quick, showed a short swing plane and level finish. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Solid athletic while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 78 mph; had soft consistent hands, smooth rhythmic footwork, and a clean natural exchange. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a long arm action. In the 60-yard dash, he clocked a time of 7.1.

Daniel Irizarry OF / RHP / Lake Mary, FL / 2023

6-foot-3, 173-pound long athletic build. Solid projectable in the box, Irizarry had a max exit velocity of 95 mph. (69.82 mph bat speed average). (21.42 mph hand speed average). Began in a tall athletic stance with a slow rhythmic load, then used a short stride. Has a short upward swing plane, electric bat speed and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid from the outfield, he showed plus arm strength by making throws to the infield at velocities up to 88 mph; shows soft consistent hands, a quick clean exchange, and athletic feet. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.04.

Landen Maroudis SS / RHP / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023

North Carolina State Commit, 6-foot-3, 185-pound solid athletic frame. Above average projectable at the plate, Maroudis had an exit velocity of 97 mph. (73.83 mph bat speed average). (23.14 mph hand speed average). Begins in a tall stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a big leg kick. Has electric bat speed, short upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Above average in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 93 mph; shows soft hands, athletic feet, and a clean natural exchange. Above average projectable when throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 94 mph; had consistent hands, a clean exchange, and smooth athletic footwork. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. Established speed as one of his strengths with an efficient 60 time of 6.73. Above average projectable on the mound, used a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action while showing quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows decent effort. Displays even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 91-92 mph and topped out at 93 mph; shows hard running action and control around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2457; Avg 2253). Had slurvey action and in the zone control on his tight curveball (77-79). (Max spin 2419; Avg 2236). Threw a sharp changeup (82-84) with down in the zone command and fading action.

Jacob McKenzie C / 3B / Winter Springs, FL / 2023

5-foot-10, 180-pound strong athletic frame. Solid at the plate, Mckenzie recorded an exit velocity of 93 mph. (68.17 mph bat speed average). (19.56 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced athletic stance with an arm bar load, then used a short leg kick. Had quick bat speed, short swing plane and high finish. He created some loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. While catching, throw downs to second were maxed at 76 mph; had a quick clean transfer, soft hands, and smooth athletic footwork. showed his ability to throw runners out with an efficient pop time of 1.93-2.07. Some flexibility and athletic setup. Showed consistent accuracy to the base with a ¾ slot and a short arm action. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.63.

Alex Monile C / OF / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023

5-foot-9, 180-pound solid frame. Solid during batting practice, Monile clocked an exit velocity of 91 mph. (74.95 mph bat speed average). (21.26 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced athletic stance with a low load, then used a toe tap stride. Bat speed is efficient, displays an upward swing plane and level finish. He found some barrels with some loud contact. Aggressive pull side approach. Behind the plate, his best recorded velocity during throw downs was clocked at 71 mph; had average footwork, a clean transfer, and consistent hands. he produced a pop time of 2.04-2.11. Some flexibility and staggered setup. Decent accuracy to the bag, used an-over-the-top slot and a short arm action. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.35.

Blake Opie OF / RHP / Calvary Christian, FL / 2023

South Florida Commit, 6-foot-2, 185-pound strong athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, Opie had an exit velocity of 96 mph. (71.94 mph bat speed average). (22.81 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a small rhythmic load, then used a short controlled stride. Has a short swing plane, electric bat speed and high finish. Had a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 86 mph; had athletic footwork, a clean natural exchange, and sure consistent hands. Fielded the ball out front with athletic movement laterally. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.19. Solid on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with consistent arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with recoil finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 80-83 mph; shows slight running action and command around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2117; Avg 1873). His tight curveball (71-72) has slurvey action and in the zone command. (Max spin 2422; Avg 2344).

Jacob Riegel SS / 2B / Palm Harbor University, FL / 2023

Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses decent effort. Has an athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 82-86 mph; has running action and command in the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2180; Avg 2018). Has down in the zone control and slurvey swing and miss action on his tight slider (70-73). (Max spin 2065; Avg 2065).

Ryan Rushing LHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

Indiana Commit, 5-foot-9, 170-pound solid athletic build. Solid projectable on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action with quick arm speed. John Sayres Jr RHP / RHP / IMG Academy, FL / 2023

6-foot-5, 185-pound long lean build. Solid on the mound, showed a ¾ arm angle and a short quick arm action with good arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Displays even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Curveball (65-68 mph). Threw his fastball 77-79 mph and topped out at 80 mph; had command down in the zone and tight swing and miss action with sharp movement. (Max spin 1867; Avg 1645).
