2021 Sophomore State Games: East Region Analysis

The 2021 Sophomore State Games took place Saturday, October 30th and Sunday, October 31st at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The event featured players from the 2024 class representing their region of North, South, East, or West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

East Region Analysis

Jackson Adams 3B / 1B / Apopka, FL / 2024

6-foot, 185-pound solid athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Adams had an exit velocity of 89 mph. (66.83 mph bat speed average). (19.76 mph hand speed average). Begins in a tall athletic stance with a quick load, then uses a toe tap stride. Bat speed was quick, had a short simple swing plane and level finish. During his round he produced loud contact and found some barrels. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, recorded position velocities up to 77 mph; had consistent hands, smooth footwork, and a clean exchange. Laterally, movements were average and fielded the ball out front. Had a short arm action and a low ¾ slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.47.

Beny Bikar Jr. SS / 2B / Sebring, FL / 2024

5-foot-8, 128-pound lean athletic build. Solid in the box, the switch hitter had a max exit velocity of 84 mph. (59.75 mph bat speed average). (18.41 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short toe tap stride. Bat speed was quick, showed a short swing plane and good extension on his finish. Barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Up the middle line drive approach. Solid projectable while in the infield, made throws up to 78 mph; has smooth athletic feet, a quick clean exchange, and next level hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a short arm action and a ¾ slot. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.54.

Jesuel Cruz C / Sunshine State Elite Academy , FL / 2024

6-foot, 185-pound strong athletic frame. Solid at the plate, Cruz clocked an exit velocity of 90 mph. (66.78 mph bat speed average). (21.74 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall open stance with a quick tight load, then uses a small leg kick. Bat speed was quick, used a short simple swing plane and high finish. Found some barrels with some loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. While catching, throw downs to second topped out at 65 mph; has soft hands, smooth athletic feet, and a clean transfer. had consistent pop times of 2.18-2.40. A lot of flexibility and flexible setup. Used a ¾ slot and a short quick arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.24.

Yvan Douglas C / 1B / Jesuit, FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 168-pound strong athletic build. Solid in the box, Douglas recorded an exit velocity of 94 mph. (69.99 mph bat speed average). (20.65 mph hand speed average). Begins in a tall balanced stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a short quick stride. Has a short flat swing plane, electric bat speed and good extension on his finish. Barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. While catching, his best recorded throw to second was clocked at 78 mph; had soft consistent hands, smooth footwork, and a clean transfer. produced pop times of 2.02-2.10. Flexible setup with tons of flexibility. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a short arm action and a ¾ slot. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.21.

Jake Eisert 3B / C / Winter Park, FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 170-pound strong athletic frame. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 87 mph. (67.68 mph bat speed average). (21.00 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a quick controlled load, then uses a toe tap stride. Has electric bat speed, short upward swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contacts. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, displayed a velocity of 84 mph; had a clean quick exchange, smooth footwork, and sure consistent hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Behind the plate, he produced a position velocity of 73 mph during throw downs; had a quick transfer, smooth athletic footwork, and soft hands. he had a pop time of 2.07-2.16. A lot of flexibility and staggered setup. Using a short arm action, showed consistent accuracy to the bag from a ¾ slot. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.45.

Alex Espaillat SS / 2B / Seminole, FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 145-pound lean athletic build. Solid at the plate, Espaillat's best exit velocity was 88 mph. (66.01 mph bat speed average). (20.68 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall athletic stance with a slow controlled load, then used a small leg kick. Bat speed was quick, used a short swing plane and level finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Up the middle line drive approach. Solid in the infield, displayed a velocity of 84 mph; had smooth footwork, a clean natural exchange, and soft consistent hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Used a long arm action and a high ¾ slot while showing consistent accuracy to the base. During the event, ran the 60-yard dash in 7.29.

Gavin Gonzalez OF / RHP / Winter Park, FL / 2024

6-foot-2, 160-pound long athletic frame. Solid in the box, the left-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 87 mph. (67.43 mph bat speed average). (18.54 mph hand speed average). Started in a crouched stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then used a short stride. Bat speed is quick, exhibits a short upward swing plane and high finish. He barreled up multiple balls with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid from the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 79 mph; has consistent hands, choppy feet, and a clean exchange. Fielded the ball to the side with average movement laterally. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a high ¾ slot with a long arm action. Recorded a 60 time of 7.22 at the event. Solid on the mound, showing consistent arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle and a short arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Has an athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Threw his fastball 76-78 mph; shows slight tailing action and command around the zone with sharp movement. (Max spin 2179; Avg 2081). Had down in the zone command and fading action on his tight changeup (69-71).

Daniel Herrera 2B / 3B / Lakeland Christian, FL / 2024

5-foot-7, 150-pound lean athletic frame. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 83 mph. (61.48 mph bat speed average). (16.77 mph hand speed average). Begins in an athletic stance with a quick rhythmic load, then uses a small leg kick. Had a short simple swing plane, explosive bat speed and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 74 mph; shows smooth feet, a clean quick exchange, and soft consistent hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a ¾ slot and a short arm action. Recorded a time of 7.44 in the 60-yard dash.

Kendall Hoffman 3B / RHP / Seminole, FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 135-pound long lean frame. Solid during batting practice, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 84 mph. (64.25 mph bat speed average). (21.24 mph hand speed average). Starts in a tall open stance with a small arm bar load, then uses a small leg kick. Has efficient bat speed, short swing plane and good extension on his finish. He produced some loud contact and found a few barrels. Gap to gap line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, registered his best throw across the diamond at 77 mph; has athletic feet, a clean exchange, and soft consistent hands. Smooth in the outfield, his best throw of the day was clocked at 79 mph; had a clean exchange, smooth footwork, and soft hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a high ¾ slot with a long arm action while showing consistent accuracy to the bag. During the event, clocked a 60 time of 7.89. Solid on the mound, had a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with quick arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows decent effort. Tall balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 76-78 mph; shows control around the zone and running action with hard movement. (Max spin 2140; Avg 2063). His tight curveball (66-69) showed in the zone control and slurvey action. (Max spin 2417; Avg 2228).

Carson Homitz RHP / OF / Lake Brantley, FL / 2024

5-foot-11, 130-pound long lean build. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed, he had a long arm action and a ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses easy effort. He has even shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands square with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 71-73 mph; has slight running action and command in the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2223; Avg 2022). Throws a tight curveball (62-64) that shows slurvey action and in the zone command. (Max spin 2304; Avg 2170). Shows command around the zone and sweeping action on his sharp slider.

Keenan Jabeth SS / 3B / Vero Beach , FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 174-pound long athletic build. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 90 mph. (65.06 mph bat speed average). (19.02 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall athletic stance with a quick load, then used a leg kick. Bat speed was electric, had a short upward swing plane and good extension on his finish. He barreled up multiple balls with tons of loud contact. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws at velocities up to 81 mph; has a clean natural exchange, smooth rhythmic feet, and soft consistent hands. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a long arm action and a low ¾ slot. Recorded a 60 time of 7.14 at the event. Capable on the mound, had a long arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with good arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses decent effort. Has an athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands open with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 72-74 mph; has a straight fastball that shows command around the zone and slight tailing action. (Max spin 1870; Avg 1759). Austin Jacobs SS / 2B / Hagerty, FL / 2024

Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a ¾ slot with a long arm action. Recorded a time of 7.0 in the 60-yard dash.

Kaiden Lopez OF / RHP / Oviedo , FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 160-pound athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 93 mph. (64.40 mph bat speed average). (21.72 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth rhythmic load, then uses a leg kick. Has a short swing plane, explosive bat speed and good extension on his finish. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.82 60-yard dash. Solid on the mound, showing consistent arm speed he used an over-the-top arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses easy effort. Showed athletic balance point and even shoulders. Lands square with a falling off finish. Threw his fastball 82-84 mph; shows running action and control around the zone with heavy movement. (Max spin 2109; Avg 1953). Had a tight curveball (70-73) that showed slurvey action and down in the zone control. (Max spin 2280; Avg 2169). His sharp changeup (74-76) shows in the zone control and fading action.

Evan Miller OF / RHP / Seminole, FL / 2024

6-foot-2, 160-pound solid athletic build. Solid at the plate, Miller had a max exit velocity of 90 mph. (65.78 mph bat speed average). (21.19 mph hand speed average). Started in a tall balanced stance with a rhythmic load, then used a short stride. Bat speed was electric, displayed an upward swing plane and high finish. During his round he produced a lot of loud contact and found multiple barrels. Gap to gap approach. Smooth throwing from the outfield, he displayed power in his arm with throws up to 89 mph;has a clean exchange, athletic feet, and consistent hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Showed consistent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a long arm action. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.03. Solid on the mound, showed quick arm speed with a ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. In his delivery his balance point is tall with even shoulders. Lands square with an athletic finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 79-81 mph; shows control around the zone and slight running action with heavy movement. (Max spin 2162; Avg 1965). Has decent control and slurvey action on his tight curveball (64-65). (Max spin 2153; Avg 2097). Has a sharp changeup (64-67) that shows fading action and arm side command.

Robert Mitchell RHP / Oviedo, FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 150-pound strong athletic frame. Projectable on the mound, showed lightning arm speed, also used a ¾ arm angle with a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows decent effort. Showed athletic balance point with even shoulders. Lands square with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-85 mph; shows command around the zone and slight cutting action with hard movement. (Max spin 2341; Avg 2220). Had down in the zone command and hard slurvey action on his tight curveball (71-74). (Max spin 2784; Avg 2635). Threw his sharp changeup (76-77) with down in the zone control and sinking action.

Brady Roberts 1B / OF / Apopka, FL / 2024

AJ Sierra OF / OF / Lakeland Senior, FL / 2024

5-foot-11, 190-pound physical athletic build. Solid during batting practice, Sierra had an exit velocity of 94 mph. (64.14 mph bat speed average). (21.07 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a slow rhythmic load, then uses a short stride. Has a short swing plane, electric bat speed and high finish. Found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Aggressive gap to gap approach. Athletic from the outfield, he showed plus arm strength by making throws to the infield at velocities up to 89 mph;shows a quick clean exchange, consistent hands, and athletic feet. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front. Had a long arm action and an-over-the-top slot with consistent accuracy to the bag. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.71 60-yard dash.

Dillon Smalley RHP / OF / Winter Park, FL / 2024

6-foot-2, 165-pound long athletic frame. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 90 mph. (66.90 mph bat speed average). (19.08 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a tight compact load, then uses a short stride. Bat speed was quick, had a short swing plane and level finish. He found multiple barrels with some loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Solid his best position velocity in the outfield was registered at 86 mph; has consistent hands, a clean natural exchange, and smooth rhythmic feet. Fields the ball to the side, movements laterally were average. Consistent accuracy to the bases, used a long arm action and a high ¾ slot. Recorded a 60 time of 7.07 at the event. Solid on the mound, showed consistent arm speed with low ¾ arm angle and a long arm action. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows decent effort. Has uphill shoulder and consistent balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 81-84 mph; has a heavy fastball that shows both sides of the plate command and tight running action. (Max spin 2219; Avg 2027). Tanner Swank SS / 2B / Plant, FL / 2024

6-foot, 155-pound solid athletic frame. Solid in the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 87 mph. (62.83 mph bat speed average). (18.13 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced crouched stance with a quick load, then uses a short toe tap stride. Bat speed is electric, shows a short simple swing plane and good extension on his finish. He found multiple barrels with tons of loud contact. Line drive gap to gap approach. Athletic showed his live arm in the infield with position velocities up to 86 mph; has rhythmic feet, a clean natural exchange, and soft hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were quick. Had a ¾ slot and a short arm action with consistent accuracy to the bag. In the 60-yard dash, recorded a time of 7.02.
