2021 Sophomore State Games: West Region Analysis

The 2021 Sophomore State Games took place Saturday, October 30th and Sunday, October 31st at Jackie Robinson Ballpark in Daytona, FL. The event featured players from the 2024 class representing their region of North, South, East, or West Florida participating in a pro-style workout followed by 3 total games per region in front of the PBR Florida Scouting Staff.

West Region Analysis

Andreas Alvarez SS / RHP / Osceola , FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 168-pound lean physical build. Above average during batting practice, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 88 mph. (62.51 mph bat speed average). (21.52 mph hand speed average). Begins in an athletic strong stance with a tight load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed is flashed efficient, has a simple loose swing plane and good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Solid confident in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 86 mph; had consistent fluid footwork, sure hands, and a clean natural exchange. Capable in the outfield, his throws to the bases were maxed out at 86 mph; showed a natural exchange, consistent hands, and in control feet. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Accuracy to the bases, used a high ¾ slot with a quick consistent arm action. Clocked a 60 time of 7.48 at the event. Solid projectable on the mound, showed quick above average arm speed with a consistent arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses high effort. He has even shoulders with an strong balance point. Lands square with a falling off finish. Sat with his fastball at 84-86 mph. has arm side control. (Max spin 2254; Avg 2106). Threw a 11/5 curveball (73-76) with command to both sides of the plate. (Max spin 2490; Avg 2385). Had control around the zone on his heavy changeup (71-72). Throws his 11/5 slider (75-76) with slurvey action and decent command. (Max spin 2373; Avg 2162).

McCall Biemiller LHP / OF / Jesuit, FL / 2024

6-foot-2, 157-pound lean lanky frame. Confident projectable on the mound, showed quick above average arm speed with a long loose arm action and a high ¾ arm angle. Feel up-tempo type pitcher who shows high effort. Has an athletic balance point with in line shoulders. Lands soft with balanced finish. Produced a fastball that came in at 83-86 mph; had tailing action and command arm side around the zone. (Max spin 2243; Avg 1977). His 1/7 curveball (70-72) showed occasional around the zone control. (Max spin 2356; Avg 2003). His changeup (74-76) shows command around the zone and fading action. Threw a 2/8 slider (73-77) that showed decent down in the zone command. (Max spin 2364; Avg 2054).

Ethan Burkhardt 2B / RHP / A3 Academy, FL / 2024

5-foot-9, 180-pound solid build. Confident during batting practice, the right-handed hitter recorded an exit velocity of 92 mph. (71.65 mph bat speed average). (19.64 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced tall stance with a tight load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed is efficient above average, uses a simple loose swing plane and good extension on his balanced finish. Found multiple barrels with loud contact. Gap to gap aggressive approach. Solid capable in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 85 mph; has consistent hands, choppy feet, and a clean natural exchange. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were developing. Consistent accuracy to the bag, used a loose arm action and athletic slot. Recorded a time of 7.05 in the 60-yard dash. Confident on the mound, showed good developing arm speed, he had a high ¾ arm angle and a quick consistent arm action. Drop-and-drive feel type pitcher who uses high effort. Showed strong athletic balance point and even in line shoulders. Lands square with balanced finish. Threw his fastball 84-86 mph. has decent both sides of the plate command. Jack Clark OF / 3B / Jesuit, FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 150-pound lean athletic build. Athletic at the plate, Clark had a max exit velocity of 88 mph. (66.34 mph bat speed average). (20.99 mph hand speed average). Starts in a balanced athletic stance with a smooth load, then uses a controlled stride. Bat speed was flashed above average, displayed a loose upward swing plane and high balanced finish. He barreled up multiple balls with loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Confident solid while in the infield, made throws up to 80 mph; shows a quick natural exchange, rhythmic consistent feet, and sure hands. Solid capable in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 85 mph; has sure hands, a clean exchange, and in control feet. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Using a longer consistent arm action, showed decent accuracy to the base from a high ¾ slot. Showed off his speed at the event, running a swift 6.62 60-yard dash.

Roman Corinti RHP / 3B / Tampa Catholic, FL / 2024

5-foot-10, 170-pound solid sturdy build. Smooth confident on the mound, showing quick developing arm speed he had a ¾ arm angle and a loose consistent arm action. Up-tempo drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses decent effort. Uphill shoulders with an athletic balance point. Lands closed with an athletic finish. Slider (72-74 mph). Sat with his fastball at 80-83 mph. showed decent both sides of the plate command. (Max spin 2236; Avg 1957). Threw his 11/5 curveball (65-67) with around the zone command. (Max spin 2626; Avg 2484). Changeup has arm side accuracy.

Nick Cucchi OF / RHP / A3 Academy, FL / 2024

South Florida Commit, 6-foot, 178-pound athletic build. Athletic above average in the box, the right-handed hitter clocked an exit velocity of 97 mph. (70.40 mph bat speed average). (21.12 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced wide stance with a tight load, then uses a short quick stride. Bat speed was present above average, showed an upward swing plane and high good extension on his finish. Found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap pull side approach. Confident solid in the outfield, he used momentum and arm strength to record throws up to 90 mph;has a clean natural exchange, rhythmic in control feet, and soft consistent hands. Movements laterally were athletic and he fields the ball out front. Showed athletic slot and a very quick arm action with decent accuracy to the bag. Performed well in the 60-yard dash, clocking a speedy time of 6.81. Athletic raw on the mound, showed a short very quick arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with quick above average arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher who uses max effort. Balance point is tall with a falling off shoulders during delivery. Lands hard with an athletic finish. Changeup (75-77 mph). Produced a fastball that came in at 82-84 mph. shows arm side command. (Max spin 2154; Avg 1949). Shows low in the zone control on his 11/5 curveball.

Rocco DeMarinis 1B / 3B / Plant, FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 180-pound lean athletic frame. Solid at the plate, Demarinis recorded an exit velocity of 92 mph. (66.10 mph bat speed average). (20.06 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced athletic stance with a tight load, then uses a controlled stride. Had a short simple swing plane, flashed developing bat speed and high good extension on his finish. He barreled up some balls with loud contact. Line drive approach. Jack Earnest OF / 2B / Jesuit, FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 165-pound lean athletic frame. Athletic solid in the box, the right-handed hitter's best exit velocity was 92 mph. (60.55 mph bat speed average). (18.16 mph hand speed average). Begins in a balanced stance with a quick tight load, then uses a short stride. Had a short simple swing plane, quick efficient bat speed and high good extension on his finish. Through the round he found multiple barrels with a lot of loud contact. Gap to gap approach. Confident in the infield, had a live arm with throws that topped out at 85 mph; has in control feet, a natural lengthy exchange, and sure hands. Capable when throwing from the outfield, he showed off his strong arm with throws at velocities of 88 mph;had sure hands, a natural lengthy exchange, and fluid rhythmic footwork. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were twitchy. Showed decent accuracy to the bag with a high ¾ slot and a quick longer arm action. In the 60-yard dash, his time was 7.07. Confident capable on the mound, showed a high ¾ arm angle and a clean consistent arm action with quick consistent arm speed. Feel drop-and-drive type pitcher and uses decent effort. Displays in line shoulders and an athletic balance point. Lands square with balanced finish. Sat with his fastball at 79-81 mph. has both sides of the plate command. (Max spin 2177; Avg 2053). Has down in the zone control on his 11/5 curveball (70-70). (Max spin 2571; Avg 2520). Throws his heavy changeup (76-77) with down in the zone arm side command.

Mason Hudson RHP / River Ridge, FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 190-pound lean proportional build. Solid capable on the mound, used a high ¾ arm angle with a compact consistent arm action while showing good arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows decent effort. Has an athletic balance point with uphill shoulders. Lands soft with recoil finish. Threw his fastball 79-82 mph. showed command decent around the zone. (Max spin 1892; Avg 1746). His changeup (63-67) showed down in the zone control and gradual fading action.

Atticus Huffstutler C / 3B / Lakewood , FL / 2024

6-foot-2, 170-pound lean long frame. Capable during batting practice, Huffstutler's best exit velocity was 85 mph. (62.34 mph bat speed average). (20.24 mph hand speed average). Started in a balanced athletic stance with a tight arm bar load, then used a controlled leg kick. Has efficient developing bat speed, simple swing plane and high finish. Jace Kohler SS / RHP / Calvary Christian, FL / 2024

Vance Landry C / C / Community School of Naples, FL / 2024

Began in a balanced tall stance with a slow arm bar load, then used a short controlled stride. Bat speed is efficient, uses a loose uphill swing plane and a back foot finish. Jacob Lozano SS / 2B / Jesuit , FL / 2024

Justin Marshall C / 1B / Jesuit, FL / 2024

Started in a balanced crouched stance with a compact load, then used a short quick stride. Bat speed was quick efficient, used a short upward swing plane and high finish. Christopher Palomino 2B / OF / Barbara Goleman, FL / 2024

5-foot-7, 137-pound athletic, lean frame. Capable during batting practice, Palomino recorded an exit velocity of 82 mph. (60.8 mph bat speed average). (22.8 mph hand speed average). Starts in an athletic stance with a quick load, then uses a short stride to the ball. Bat speed is above average. Uses a short swing plane and high finish. Found multiple barrels during bp. Gap to gap approach. Solid in the infield, recorded a position velocity of 71 mph; showed soft hands and athletic feet. Solid from the outfield, he displayed a position velocity of 75 mph. Laterally, movements were athletic and fielded the ball out front with momentum towards the target. Used a short arm action with a high ¾ slot on throws. A fast runner, Palomino ran a 6.74 60 time.

Zane Pestalozzi OF / 1B / Jesuit, FL / 2024

Dean Spoto SS / 2B / Jesuit, FL / 2024

5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic frame. Capable in the box, the right-handed hitter had a max exit velocity of 85 mph. (61.30 mph bat speed average). (18.59 mph hand speed average). Began in a narrow quiet stance with a slow load, then used a small controlled stride. Has a short uphill swing plane, efficient developing bat speed and high finish. Brady Wright RHP / OF / East Lake, FL / 2024

6-foot-1, 165-pound long lanky build. Confident solid on the mound, showed good developing arm speed with an over-the-top high ¾ arm angle and a long consistent arm action. Tilt-and-topple type pitcher and shows some effort. Balance point is tall with in line shoulders during delivery. Lands square and soft with balanced finish. Sat with his fastball at 74-77 mph. showed control feel around the zone. (Max spin 1988; Avg 1730). Has sweeping action and decent glove side command on his 11/5 curveball (63-67). (Max spin 2091; Avg 1928). Showed occasional down in the zone control and gradual action on his splitter (65-67).
