On Tuesday, July 12th, the PBR Illinois staff traveled to The Corn Crib in Normal, IL, to host the annual Central Illinois Open. This event was open to all 2023-to-2026 graduates and featured more than 50 prospects from the Central Illinois region, allowing our scouts an opportunity to check-in on these athletes as the summer rolls on. 

A few prospects that just missed out on the top-five but are deserving of a mention are OF/C Logan Roepke (Teutopolis, 2023), OF/RHP Blake Norton (Salt Fork, 2023) and MIF Aiden Cicogna (Stillman Valley, 2024), among others. 

Roepke ran a 6.80 60 and has a simple, direct right-handed swing and was on time and on the barrel throughout his round. 

Norton had one of the more physical builds at the event, listed at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds. At the plate, the right-handed hitter stayed on plane and drove balls with authority to both gaps; his furthest batted ball traveled 344’.

Cicogna was one of the top defenders on the day moving with fluid, clean footwork and natural, confident infield actions. Cicogna played well on the move, showed a smooth double play turn and soft hands. Has the actions and hands to stick up the middle of the infield moving forward.

A couple of offensive 20925 prospects to follow moving forward were INF Keegan Schultz (Altamont) and Kaidin Bond (LaSalle-Peru). Schultz has a 5-foot-11, 165-pound, wide-shouldered, athletic frame and made hard gap-to-gap contact with more power to come down the road. Bond has a loose, fluid swing with upside.
