On March 13, the PBR Illinois team hosted its first annual O’Hare Preseason I.D. at the new Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports Dome in Bensenville, Ill. The event featured 130 players from high school graduates in classes 2022-25, from across the Chicagoland area.

Our staff collaborated in the days that followed to highlight the biggest takeaways and highlights from Saturday’s showcase, and we've published them throughout the week with our Quick Hits and Statistical Analysis. Previously, we also looked deeper into the pitch and batted-ball data, inside of this event's TrackMan Files and Blast Motion Board stories.

We began our position-by-position analysis this week, starting with the day’s catchers and outfielders, and we’re covering the event’s infielders today.

This group was talented and large enough to separate into class rankings, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Junior Alex Vasquez (Evanston; uncommitted) lead his classmates at this event, with a short, simple right-handed swing that gelled well alongside his natural actions on the infield, helping him project well at the next level. He’s one to check back in on this summer. Notre Dame Prep and junior Michael O’Conor (uncommitted) is another ‘22 infielder who showed well at this event, generating some impressive bat strength for his size, with a positive outlook on defense.

Lyons sophomore Troy Stukenberg earned himself a place on the state’s Class of ‘23 rankings following his performance at O’Hare. Here, he took a physical round of batting practice that was among the tops for his age, and he also roamed around the infield with soft hands and athletic feet.

Among the freshmen in attendance, 3B/RHP Malachi Paplanus (Huntley, 2024; uncommitted) used this event to propel himself into a group of the top ‘24s we’ve seen to this point – and on both sides of the ball. He’s a 6-foot-1 athlete with a highly projectable right-handed swing, and he might have shown even better from the mound, which we’ll detail soon.

On March 13, the PBR Illinois team hosted its first annual O’Hare Preseason I.D. at the new Bo Jackson’s Elite Sports Dome in Bensenville, Ill. The event featured 130 players from high school graduates in classes 2022-25, from across the Chicagoland area.

We began our position-by-position analysis this week, starting with the day’s catchers and outfielders, and we’re covering the event’s infielders today.

This group was talented and large enough to separate into class rankings, 2022, 2023, and 2024. Junior Alex Vasquez (Evanston; uncommitted) lead his classmates at this event, with a short, simple right-handed swing that gelled well alongside his natural actions on the infield, helping him project well at the next level. He’s one to check back in on this summer. Notre Dame Prep and junior Michael O’Conor (uncommitted) is another ‘22 infielder who showed well at this event, generating some impressive bat strength for his size, with a positive outlook on defense.

Lyons sophomore Troy Stukenberg earned himself a place on the state’s Class of ‘23 rankings following his performance at O’Hare. Here, he took a physical round of batting practice that was among the tops for his age, and he also roamed around the infield with soft hands and athletic feet.

Among the freshmen in attendance, 3B/RHP Malachi Paplanus (Huntley, 2024; uncommitted) used this event to propel himself into a group of the top ‘24s we’ve seen to this point – and on both sides of the ball. He’s a 6-foot-1 athlete with a highly projectable right-handed swing, and he might have shown even better from the mound, which we’ll detail soon.
