On Sunday, October 3, the PBR Illinois staff traveled back to The MAX Sports Complex in McCook, Illinois, to host the annual Unsigned Senior Showcase. This event was open to all uncommitted prospects in the state’s 2022 class that are still looking for a place to call home at the collegiate level.

Now, at the event’s conclusion, our staff will begin to unravel our thoughts from the day, starting with this statistical analysis. Below we’ll highlight which players led our respective statistical categories, such as the 60-yard dash, max throwing velocities, and other such numbers from the event.
+ C/RHP Jacob Filip (Lake Community, 2022) impressed our scouts both as a positional player and a pitcher. The 6-foot-0, 180-pound left-handed hitter started his day as a catcher and finished atop the 60-yard dash leaderboard with a 6.90. During BP, Filip squared three balls up at 96 mph, nearly recording the hardest hit balls of the day. He showcased his impressive arm talent on defense as well, reaching back for an 85 mph strike to second base out of the crouch. Finally, Filip hopped on the mound later in his workout and pumped an 89.24 mph high with his fastball, per TrackMan. It was an impressive all-around showing for the uncommitted two-way prospect.
+ Just like he did at the Chicagoland Open in August, OF Luke Leombruni (Boylan Catholic) paced this group in the 60-yard dash. A high level quick-twitch athlete, Leombruni clocked a 6.59 time in our lasers, improving on the 6.64 he ran back at Triton roughly a month or so ago.
+ OF Braiden Elliot (Tri-Valley) emerged as an impressive uncommitted athlete to follow in the state’s current senior class. Built at a lean and projectable 6-foot, 165-pounds, Elliot started his workout off by running a 6.82 in the 60-yard dash - one of the event’s best times. He showed noticeable twitch in his hands during BP and posted equally impressive Blast Motion metrics to support the eye test. Elliot nearly paced the outfield group in throwing velocity from a clean, athletic slot, too.
+ LHP Jack Taczy (Cary Grove) made a rather noteworthy first impression to our staff in his PBR event debut. The 6-foot-3, 165-pound southpaw bumped his fastball up to 87 mph, sitting in the 84-86 mph range throughout his ‘pen. Given his current physical stature and the length in his levers, Taczy’s upside on the mound is relatively high should he fill out his frame. He’s a follow southpaw that’s still uncommitted from the Fox Valley Conference area of the state.
+ LHP/1B Michael Pustelnik (Andrew, 2022) brings a physical presence to the diamond, boasting a strong 6-foot-3, 210-pound frame. Pustelnik tied for the event lead in max exit velocity, squaring his hardest hit ball up at 97 mph off the barrel, featuring some impressive all-around offensive TrackMan metrics that we’ll highlight later on in the week. He was also up to 82 mph on the mound with his MAX fastball.
+ We had high expectations for RHP Evan Eberle (Oak Park-River Forest, 2022) going into the event, as one of the top arms on this roster, and the 6-foot-1, 170-pound right-hander didn’t disappoint. Eberle’s best fastball clocked in at 88 mph on TrackMan, sitting comfortably at 84-88 mph throughout.
+ Two more arms to note from this event, both of which were up to 85 mph with their fastballs: RHP Frank Freeman (St. Ignatius) and RHP Elijah Rompala-Matthews (Mount Carmel). Both of these arms offer projectability on the mound in their own respective ways. Freeman is a lanky 6-foot-1, 165-pound prospect with plenty of room to fill out, while Rompala-Matthews’ stands at a long-limbed 6-foot-6, 195-pounds.
