Indiana Class of 2023: Rankings Update

Cooper Trinkle & Staff
PBR Indiana

With the 2022 fall coming to an end and the early signing period approaching for the Class of 2023, it is time for a modest update to Indiana’s 2023 Class Rankings. Today, we highlight key risers within this update, as well as a few top uncommitted prospects.

Key Risers

Bryce Riggs / RHP / Noblesville HS / 2023
Riggs has steadily climbed the 2023 rankings over the past year, and continues to do so after a strong fall, checking in as the #17 ranked player in Indiana’s 2023 class. The 5-foot-11, 185 pounder showed a tick up in velocity this fall, touching 90 mph on his fastball, to go along with a sharp, 11/5 curveball at 76-79 mph that he has a ton of feel for. The Eastern Illinois recruit attacks hitters from an over-the-top arm slot with good arm speed and has continued to develop his 78-80 mph changeup.

Jaden Hart / OF/SS / Jeffersonville HS / 2023
Hart is another prospect who has skyrocketed up the 2023 rankings, impressing in multiple looks throughout 2022. Hart had an impressive showing at our Fall State Games, where he showed off his plus arm strength (94 OF Velo / 89 INF Velo). A 6.79 runner, Hart possesses twitchy bat speed that allows more power than his 5-foot-9, 140 pound frame would suggest. The John A. Logan College commit is a gamer that has shown the ability to handle velocity and play multiple positions in the middle of the diamond.

Walker Brodt / RHP / Brownsburg HS / 2023
Brodt has taken a massive step up in 2022, making the largest jump of any prospect in this update. We have seen Brodt’s velocity improve from low-to-mid 80s this spring, to touching 90 mph this fall. The strong-framed, 6-foot-1, 205 pounder sat 86-88 T 90 mph in a start this fall where he was dominant against a very solid lineup. The uncommitted right-hander has solid feel for a 3-pitch mix, showing plenty of feel for his sharp, 74-76 mph slider and the ability to command a sinking, 77-78 mph changeup.

Kyle Manship / RHP / Fishers HS / 2023
A lanky, 6-foot-1, 170 pound uncommitted RHP, Manship has a loose, whippy arm action with a fastball that works into the upper-80s. Manship has one of the better breaking balls in the class, showing sharp, S/M action at 72-73 mph with elite spin metrics (2600-2700). With plenty of room to continue to add size & strength, Manship continues to trend in the right direction.

Top Uncommitted

Christian Pownall / LHP / Western HS / 2023
The top-ranked uncommitted prospect in Indiana’s 2023 class, Pownall will be a solid addition to any recruiting class. The 6-foot-1, 180 pound southpaw has starter potential, with a fastball that sits 83-86 mph and can run into the upper-80s, and advanced pitchability. Pownall is a clean mover down the mound that pitches from a ¾ arm slot. His changeup is a plus offering, with fading action at 74-78 mph. He also has a short, tight slider at 73-75 mph that he has shown the ability to land for a strike, as well as use as an out-pitch.

Evan Lopez / RHP / Bremen HS / 2023
The top-ranked uncommitted right-hander in Indiana’s 2023 class. Standing at 6-foot-3, 180 pounds, Lopez has a smooth, balanced delivery with a long, clean arm action from a H3/4 slot. He sits 85-88 mph with good ride to the FB, producing lots of S/M. Lopez shows solid feel for a slurvey, 75-76 mph breaking ball. With plenty to dream on with the body and clean arm action, expect a velocity jump to come from Lopez in the near future.

Ricky Howell / RHP / Pendleton Heights HS / 2023
Howell is an uncommitted 2023 RHP that had a big 2022 summer. The athletic, 6-foot-1, 180 pounder has an advanced fastball at 87-91 touching 92 mph this summer. The FB has some ASR and he tunnels a tight, 72-76 mph breaking ball off of it. While he does have some inconsistencies with command, when everything syncs up his stuff is electric. Developing CH at 76-77.

Collin Lindsey / C / Westfield HS / 2023
Strong and athletic, 6-foot, 205 pound backstop. Lindsey is a solid defender behind the dish with a top pop time of 1.93. He has a short, direct swing with plenty of bat speed. Lindsey had a really strong junior spring, where he hit .380 with 6 home runs in arguably the state’s toughest conference. Lindsey is the top-ranked uncommitted catcher in Indiana’s 2023 class.
