Louisiana Rankings Update - 2022 Class

Alex Armand
Louisiana Scouting Director

The 2022 Class in Louisiana is a talented group at key positions up the middle of the field.  Barbe High School SS/RHP Gavin Guidry (LSU Commit) sits atop the list thanks to a great start this spring, both at the plate and on the mound.  Below, we take a look at two OF’s who are in the Top 10 for the first time, a LHH 3B who is on the rise, and a pair of LHP’s who have made a considerable jump as well.

2022 OF Caleb Stelly (Parkview Baptist HS)

The University of Louisiana commit made a splash last summer by posting a 6.45 60 time and a 100 mph exit velocity.  Stelly showed that the tools played in game at the 2020 Future Games last summer, after a great performance all week.  He has stayed in the middle of the order for a very talented Parkview Baptist HS team that we expect to make a nice run in the playoffs.

2022 OF Cardell Thibodeaux (Acadiana HS)

Thibodeaux remains one of the top uncommitted position players in the 2022 class, but he shouldn’t remain uncommitted for long.  The L/L OF has started since his freshman year for Acadiana HS, who currently is a Top 10 in Class 5A.  A prototypical lead-off hitter, Thibodeaux has always played really good defense and taken competitive at-bats, however, the power is starting to show and is a big reason why his stock is trending up.

2022 3B Lee Amedee (St. Amant HS)

Amedee was another member of our 2020 Future Games team and committed to the University of Louisiana short after the event ended last summer.  The sweet swinging lefty has continued to have success this spring for the Gators, setting the table as the club’s lead-off hitter.  He currently has 4 HR’s this spring and is hitting over .400.

2022 LHP Dawson Curtin (Live Oak HS)

Curtin is a guy that we have talked about a lot over the fall and into the early spring after great showings at our Louisiana All-State Games, Louisiana Preseason ID, and Northern Louisiana Preseason ID.  The southpaw has cemented himself as one of the “go-to” arms for the 4th ranked Eagles of Live Oak and recently committed to the University of Louisiana.

2022 LHP Larson Fabre (Denham Springs HS)

Denham Springs was considered to be one of the top teams in Class 5A coming into the year and a big reason for that was Fabre.  The University of Houston commit is the Yellow Jackets #1 on the mound.  His stuff isn’t overpowering with his FB sitting in the 82-85 mph range, but Fabre does a really good job of mixing speeds, landing his CB and CH in any count, keeping hitters off balance,
