Rankings Release: Class of 2024 Initial Rankings

Jared Carrier
Scouting Director

Since March the world has been a different place, creating many obstacles on the amateur baseball scene across the country. Seasons were lost and a lot of baseball was crammed into a window between early July and late October here in New York.

For the PBR-NY staff we were able to see more Freshmen than ever over that time period. After plenty of staff discussions we are ready to debut our first 50 players in the Class of 2024 Rankings along with an extensive "Players to Watch" list (select 2024 tab) that features many players who over time will surely find their way in to the rankings.

Let's kick off our rankings review with a snapshot rundown of the Top 10; the entire 2024 ranking can be found HERE.

Upcoming Ranking Releases:
Class of 2021 (before 11/30)
Class of 2022 (before 12/10)
Class of 2023 (before 12/17)

NOTE: An updated "date" on the rankings page does not indicate a full update or release. The moving of one player, one spot (or removal/addition), resets the time stamp to the present date. An official release on the website and on social media indicates a complete update.

Class of 2024 / Top 10

Owen Paino SS / RHP / Roy C. Ketcham, NY / 2024

Smooth stroke for the LHH from the Hudson Valley; showed advanced barrel control all summer long at Lakepoint in front of numerous PBR Groundforces' eyes. The 6-foot-2 160 pounder is a recent Mississippi Commit.

Cristofer Cespedes RHP / North Rockland , NY / 2024

Can't teach 6-foot-3 210 pounds and when it accompanies a 88 MPH FB it's easy to see why Cespedes is the #1 overall ranked pitcher in the initial rankings. Breaking ball showed some feel at 72-75 MPH with a peak spin rate of 2233 RPM.

Ryan Bailey RHP / OF / Iona Prep, NY / 2024

Bailey checks in as a legitimate dual prospect showing pitchability beyond his years along with high end offensive skill set. FB works 84-86 MPH with above average spin (avg 2250 / peak 2334). Projects well in the corner OF with an arm up to 88 MPH. Impressive rounds at the plate with an average exit velocity of 86 MPH, peaking at 93 MPH with a heavy dose of line drive results.

Noah Wasiura C / RHP / West Seneca West, NY / 2024

One of the more physically compact players at 5-foot-9 182 pounds. Already shows an above average arm behind the dish at 81 MPH with present strength in the box (peak exit of 94 MPH while averaging 85 MPH at the JR. Future Games). Intrigues on the mound with a short take back, 3/4 slot delivery working 81-83, T 84 MPH complemented by a short action breaking ball at 66-69 MPH.

Geneo Savoca, Jr. SS / RHP / Albany Academy , NY / 2024

The recent reclass features a dynamic bat from the left side and quick-twitch actions up the middle with ability to close ground with his first step. On the bump the RHP can work up to 83 MPH, carrying his athleticism over to the mound.

Nicholas Vega C / 3B / Church hill, NY / 2024

Vega is part of a strong group of backstops that will receive plenty of attention the next four years. Strong 5-foot-11 165 build build; repeats his timing at the plate with controlled take back and up-down stride. Explosive actions upon commitment while averaging exit velos between 80-85 MPH and showing the ability to split the gaps. Clean exchanges with efficient footwork behind the plate have resulted in consistent pop times in the 2.08-2.15 range in a showcase setting.

Seven Alemais C / OF / All Hallows, NY / 2024

A true appreciation for Alemais' skill set is to watch him over several games like our staff was able to do this fall at the PBR-Tournaments Northeast Fall Championships in Cortland. Steady receiver, works well laterally in the dirt and is accurate with the arm. Shows plate coverage and is able to drive both gaps with his 70-72 MPH Bat speed (Blast Motion).

Henry Jackson SS / RHP / Horseheads , NY / 2024

One of the better overall athletes in the group; Jackson has shown upside on the mound working up to 81 MPH with 2138 max RPM. The wiry, athletic 6-foot-0 155 pounder also exhbit a high intent approach with some barrel whip at the plate.  Jackson will only get stronger and continue to polish his skill set at one of the top HS programs in the state.

Christian Alicea C / RHP / St. John the Baptist, NY / 2024

The recently reclassed Alicea was coming off an injury early this summer but is now back to his normal self. The power in the bat is there and the skill set behind the plate compliments that. As he works his way back, he'll no doubt be one of the top backstops in the state over the next four years. The 2024 class will breed some competition within itself with 6 of the top 12 players being catchers.

Paul Dulanto C / 3B / Massapequa , NY / 2024

A newcomer in front of our eyes late this summer who made a lasting first impression. Lean 6-foot-0 170 build for the RHH from Long Island. Impressed with his barrel control at the plate and athleticism behind it; accurate arm with a strong foundation as a reciever.
