ON THE BUBBLE

HASTINGS RAIDERS
The Raiders have three Division 2 commits, one D1, and a top-end arm from the sophomore class.

LAKEVILLE SOUTH COUGARS
After pushing the reigning champion Farmington Tigers to the brink in the section finals, the Cougars will return a battle-tested roster in 2023.

ROGERS ROYALS
The Royals have arms and they are athletic.

BENILDE-ST. MARGARET’S RED KNIGHTS
The Red Knights have two Division 1 commits and add a solid shortstop to the mix. Tough match for any size school.

SHAKOPEE SABERS
Shakopee returns an assortment of strong arms that can be dangerous at any point.

10 // PRIOR LAKE LAKERS

The Lakers have a bevy of quality pitchers at their disposal, including Tyus Smith (South Dakota State commit), Brady Baur (University of Sioux Falls commit), Matthew Totten (Purdue University commit) and Hudson Johnson (uncommitted 2024).

9 // ROSEMOUNT IRISH

The Irish finished 19-8 in 2022 and have a lot of quality returning players. That includes names like Jack Thompson (Valparaiso commit), Carter Theisen (Augustana commit), Liam Bystol (Concordia St Paul commit), and Cameron Richardson (uncommitted). Their senior experience and depth should propel them deep into section play.

8 // MAPLE GROVE CRIMSON

Maple Grove graduated a lot of their pitching staff that led them to a state tournament berth in 2022 but they have a number of returning seniors with postseason experience – Sam Kliber, Hunter Gerber, Tanner Albeck – that should help the Crimson stay in contention.

7 // ANDOVER HUSKIES

The Huskies had a great season in 2022 despite losing one the state’s best arms for the year after just four innings. Anthony Pardo (Illinois State commit) returns to a rotation that included Josh Novak (Hillsdale College commit) and Colin Anderson (Minnesota State University-Mankato commit). The Huskies should be a menace again this year.

6 // MOUNDS VIEW MUSTANGS

Mounds View’s state tournament hopes were thwarted in the section finals last season but the Mustangs will ride back into contention with six returning starters – including Georgia Tech committed catcher Drew Rogers and Iowa commit Tyler Guerin

5 // FARMINGTON TIGERS

It’s hard to envision a state tournament without the Tigers. Farmington graduated a whopping 16 seniors from their state runner-up team from last year and still have enough weapons to be dangerous in 2023. The heavy lifting will be done by Owen Schmidt (Winona State commit), Luke Walton (University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse commit) and Sawyer Hoffman (Winona State commit).

4 // CRETIN-DERHAM HALL RAIDERS

The Raiders are led by three Division 1 commits in Jake Quinn (University of Minnesota), Paul Jones (University of Maryland), and Jack Taxdahl (University of Minnesota). Closely behind are two strong prospects from the sophomore class in John Henry Koherst and Brady Stoeklen. The only thing missing from this roster is a Mauer.

3 // CHANHASSEN STORM

Chanhassen will run out an impressive senior staff that includes Josh Och (Southern Miss commit), Sam Marek (Iowa Western commit), Johnny Checheris (University of Sioux Falls commit), and Everett Foudray (uncommitted 2023). It’s a collection of pitchers as good as any in the state.

2 // STILLWATER PONIES

The 4A state champion Ponies were a well-coached, well-executed machine. This year’s version will be anchored by returners in Creighton committed catcher Mason McCurdy, NIACC commit Alex Matchy, and uncommitted Alex VanDell. Regardless of the level of experience, Stillwater will almost certainly be one of the most competitive teams in the state.

1 // EAST RIDGE RAPTORS

It’s hard to top the assortment of power arms this roster possesses. The Raptors’ rotation is likely the envy of the state: You have Wichita State commit Trevor Lee (2023), Texas A&M commit Max Arlich (2024), and Ole Miss commit Jake Reigert (2024). Baseball is a multidimensional game but when you can run those three out to the mound it makes it that much easier to win a game.
