MS 2025 Rankings: Preseason Update

PBR Mississippi Staff

With the conclusion of the off-season and the spring season set to get underway in just a few short days, our staff has updated the state's 2025 Rankings for the first time in 2023. Though there's not much shakeup on this new board, we have expanded the rankings by a handful of names, rising and adding a few names as a result.

Below you'll learn more about these updated rankings for the state's current sophomore class, including more information on prospects that climbed and those who debuted for the first time.

top risers & Newcomers

+ MIF Baylor Roberts (Saltillo, 2025)
Roberts continues his development into one of more talented middle infielders in the state. Roberts has added more size to his frame and still has plenty of more room available. His hands and fluid footwork set him apart and the ceiling for this young man still looks like it's nowhere in site. Roberts added strength is evident at the plate as well as exit velocities also continue to move up. He uses a short, quick level approach while attacking the ball out front and spraying liners to all fields. Recruiters should be, if they aren’t already, getting to know this young man on a personal level.

+ INF/RHP Cannon Hensarling (Ocean Springs, 2025)
Has a frame to get excited about. The lean, fluid moving sophomore still has development ahead of him but opened some eyes this weekend showing signs of next level potential in several areas. At the plate, Hensarling uses a pull side approach with slight loft to his swing and power on the way. On the mound he already had the stuff to make recruiters get excited with a fastball into the low 80's though his secondary stuff looks to be superior in the making.

+ OF/C Drew Hollimon (East Union, 2025)
Is smaller in frame though plays big and aggressive. Hollimon is definitely a serviceable catching option with a very solid skill set, though may end up in the outfield at the next level to take advantage of his speed and overall quickness to cover gaps. The 60 time should continue to drop though having seen him in game action, he’s very instinctive with looks off the bat. Also has some juice at the plate with exit velocities approaching 90 mph while using a line drive, pull side approach. Another 2025 to follow closely!

+ MIF Dayne Wray (Itawamba, 2025)
Has made tremendous strides as of late, the addition of some added strength has come into play for Wray as he posted a max EV of 93.2 mph during his round of BP at the Mid-South Preseason ID. Relaxed look in the box, worked up the middle during batting practice with multiple liners. Posted the second highest infield velocity from the event at 83 mph across the diamond, easy flowing actions along with an athletic arm. The frame projects, higher-waisted body at 5-foot-11, 165-pounds. Interesting follow as the Indians at Itawamba gear up for the spring.

+ RHP Aiden Steht (Desoto Central, 2025)
Was easily one of the top performers on the mound from the preseason. Steht is an intriguing right hander that projects with the 6-foot-4, 190-pound proportional frame, well developed in the lower half of the body with long limbs. Had a solid three pitch mix working for him during his 'pen. Flashed a fastball with some arm side action at 82-84 mph, T85 mph. The breaking ball showed some good depth with 11/5 shape in the 69-71 mph range along with a late fading changeup in the low-70's. Everything looks effortless at times for Steht, with the projectable frame, expect some upticks in velo from the young right hander down the road.
