Hattiesburg, MS - The Mississippi Open was held on Wednesday, June 8th at Pete Taylor Park on the campus of The University of Southern Miss in Hattiesburg, MS. This event consisted of some of the top prospects from the 2023-2027 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw in a bullpen setting and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing at the event. 

Today we are continuing to release our individual scouting reports on each player present as we take a look at the outfielders from the event.

 

Walker Craft, Hernando (MS), 2023
Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-11, 175-pounds.
Hit: LHH. Athletic stance, small, easy load, slight knee lift with some aggression into contact, works the middle of the diamond well with some loft in the swing path.
Power: 89.4 max exit velocity, averaged 82.6 mph. 316’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 81 mph. Good lengthy arm action on throws, slight backwards stab.
Defense: Good footwork in the outfield, fields the ball to the side and accurate on throws.
Run: 7.52 runner in the 60. 

Evin Denning, Petal  (MS), 2024
Positional Profile: LHP/OF
Body: 5-9, 130-pounds. Wiry frame.
Hit: SH. Tall, slightly open setup with high hands, rhythmic load into a toe tap and longer stride, level bat path, sprays ball to all fields.
Power: 83.5 max exit velocity, averaged 77.4 mph. 286’ max distance.
Arm: LH. OF - 78 mph. Good lengthy and loose arm action on throws.
Defense: Good footwork in the outfield, fields the ball to the side and accurate on throws.
Run: 6.97 runner in the 60. Good runner and more developing speed.

Jackson White, Wayne Academy (MS), 2024
Positional Profile: OF/OF
Body: 6-3, 190-pounds. Tall, athletic and lean frame.
Hit: RHH. Tall, athletic stance, slightly open with high hands, crouches slightly into load, toe tap into stride with lots of leverage, agressive into contact with present power.
Power: 95.3 max exit velocity, averaged 90.2 mph. 358’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 83 mph. Long, quick arm action.
Defense: Fields the ball out front, good footwork and solid accuracy on throws.
Run: 7.10 runner in the 60. Solid runner with more speed coming.

Rhett Atkinson, Leake Academy (MS), 2023
Positional Profile: OF/2B
Body: 6-1, 155-pounds.
Hit: SH. Tall, slightly open stance. Slow, controlled load, stays inside legs well at contact, slightly upward bat path while using all fields.
Power: 84.5 max exit velocity, averaged 78.9 mph. 311’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 87 mph. Short, quick arm action.
Defense: Fields the ball out front, good footwork and solid accuracy on throws.
Run: 7.08 runner in the 60. 

Cooper Rayburn, Germantown (MS), 2025
Positional Profile: RHP/OF
Body: 6-4, 205-pounds. Tall, lean frame.
Hit: RHH. Conventional, athletic stance. Slow, quiet load with hands working well into contact. Good extension and showed some ability to drive the ball to all fields.
Power: 89.2 max exit velocity, averaged 81.8 mph. 283’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 84 mph. Loose, lengthy arm path.
Defense: Fields the ball out front, good footwork and solid accuracy on throws.
Run: 7.49 runner in the 60. 

Jon Grey Morrisson, West Union Attendance Center (MS), 2026
Positional Profile: SS/C
Body: 6-6, 200-pounds. Strong durable frame and still maturing.
Hit: RHH. Slight crouch with hands near body. Slow, controlled load and stride. Hands work directly to contact with lots of current and still developing power. Level swing and line drive approach with occasional lift. 
Power: 90.9 max exit velocity, averaged 82.9 mph. 306’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 81 mph. Short arm action, though quick.
Defense: Fields the ball out front in OF with good footwork. On the infield, carries a big frame well. Good positioning on all ground ball angles.

Body: 6-0, 162-pounds. Lean, projectable frame.
Hit: RHH. Wide set up at the plate with high hands. Quick load, small quick knee lift with up tempo swing. Level swing path with all fields approach.
Power: 91.6 max exit velocity, averaged 80.3 mph. 267’ max distance.
Arm: RH. OF - 83 mph. Long, quick and loose arm action.
Defense: Fields the ball out front with developing feet. Consistent on throws.

Body: 6-3, 174-pounds. Lean, lanky frame.
Hit: RHH. Tall, slightly open, athletic stance with high handset. Slow, controlled load with a small toe tap into stride. Line drive approach with some loft in swing. Uses the middle of the field well.

Body: 5-7, 135-pounds. Solid, yet still developing frame.
Hit: LHH. Balanced, slightly open stance with high handset. Controlled load with conventional stride. Hands move directly to the baseball with a fairly level bat path with slight launch. Uses all fields.
Power: 79.6 max exit velocity, averaged 71 mph. 260’ max distance.
