Updated 2024 Mississippi Player Rankings

PBR Mississippi Staff

The summer of 2022 coming to an end, which means it's time to revisit the player rankings for all three classes, and first up is the Class of 2024. We've been able to get a true & honest look at most of these prospects this summer, whether it be at tournaments at LakePoint Sports, a showcase setting or at a high school game this past spring. This class is already littered with tons of verbal commitments to Power 5 schools inside the Top-50 and numerous prospects that made a splash onto the scene this spring and summer.

It's going to be fun to see where all of these players end up, as many of them still have plenty of maturing to come heading into their junior seasons of their high school campaigns. Let's take a look at how this class stacks up after the summer of 2022.

The top-5

+ With the release of the 2024 rankings we welcome a new name to the class. The super talented and uncommitted Konnor Griffin reclassified and finds himself at the top of this class as well. Griffin, who plays primarily on the infield at powerhouse Jackson Prep, can run it down in the outfield gaps and is a one of the premiere right handed arms in the nation on the mound with velocities into the low 90’s. Tools galore and a must see player!

+ Moving up to #2 is Ole Miss commit Walker Hooks from Brandon. The 6-4, 225 pound left handed pitcher is an intimidating presence on the mound. Working with a fastball (up to 90 mph) that he works both sides of the plate, and a solid secondary arsenal, Hooks is polished and can make easy work of opposing hitters. Brandon looks to continue their rise and look for Hooks to play a major role for the Bulldogs.

+ Another right handed pitcher that continues to impress is Cayden Baker from Lewisburg. The recent Baylor commit has plenty of life to his fastball and generally stays in the 87-90 mph range and compliments it with good depth and tight, quick action to his breaking ball. Baker leads a Lewisburg staff that has multiple D1 commits and should be a force over the next few years.

+ Ethan Surowiec of Gulfport comes in at #4 and has maintained a spot in the top 5 for a couple of years. The Ole Miss recruit has maintained his dual prospect status and should be a valuable piece of Gulfport’s plan this spring. On the mound, Surowiec’s fastball shows good life and gets up to 91 mph which paired well with his slider with solid shape. He also has elite bat speed and middle of the order power.

+ Hank Eaton of Kossuth rounds out the top 5 and is another dual prospect. The solid built Auburn commit shows next level ability on both sides of the ball with tons of power potential and a definite middle of the order bat. On the mound Eaton has a very good idea of his job and attacks  hitters with a fastball that touches 90 mph and exceptional feel and solid tight and late action to his breaking ball.
