Matt Payne
Director of Scouting, PBR of NC

After an exciting summer of baseball here in North Carolina and the fall season about to begin, the 2023 Class continues to show its strength. The Junior Class has star power at the top that will show on a national level. The 2023 Class also has depth with several uncommitted prospects who continue to compete at a high level. With the fall season about to be in full swing the North Carolina 2023 Class Rankings have been updated and expanded to the Top 200.

The Top 5

#1

Sitting atop the 2023 Class in North Carolina is Walker Jenkins (OF/SS, South Brunswick). Jenkins had a stellar high school season and continued to perform at a very high level this summer. His bat stood out at national events all summer and the North Carolina commit will be followed closely by MLB clubs in the coming years.

#2

Chance Mako (RHP, East Rowan) is another nationally known name that ranks No. 2 in the state. The NC State recruit features a fastball that sits in the low 90’s with plenty of projection ahead and sharp breaking ball that creates a ton of swing and miss.

#3

Justin Best (OF, Langtree Charter) ranks at No. 3 in the North Carolina 2023 Class. The toolsy outfielder continues to impress at big tournaments. A high end athlete whose left hand bat produces lots of loud contact. Best is committed to Florida State.

#4

Tucker Holland (LHP, Burlington School) comes in at No. 4 in the North Carolina 2023 Class. The physical left hander has arm strength and the fastball continues to rise. Holland is one of the top uncommitted players in the country.

#5

The No. 5 ranked player in North Carolina’s 2023 Class is Nathan Teague (RHP, Southern Alamance). The 6-foot-7 righthander impressed throughout the summer with an arm and frame that has tons of projection. Teague is committed to Vanderbilt.
