NC: Cannon Paces North Lenoir with Arm and Bat

PBR was at North Johnston HS on Tuesday for a NCHSAA 2A 3rd round game.  North Lenoir entered 17-8, playing their first road game of the playoffs.  North Johnston, the high seed, hosted at 18-5.

Tied through 3 innings of play, North Lenoir got on the board with a 1 out ground ball scoring Luke Cannon who led the inning off with a 1 out single.  The Hawks would double their lead in the 6th after Cannon reached on an error, advancing to 2B, and scored on a B Crawford Single.

In the top of the 7th, North Lenoir would punch their ticket to the 4th round with a 6 run outburst.  The first 7 hitters in the inning reached via 3 singles, 2 walks, and a fielder’s choice where the runner beat the play.  The double from Cannon plated 3 runs, moving the score to 7-0.  The Hawks would add one more in the frame with a fielder’s choice getting the RBI.

On the bump Cannon worked 6.1 masterful innings striking out 11 and only giving up 2 hits.  He was relieved by J Jenkins to close out the game.

North Lenoir advances and will host Heide Trask HS on Friday.  North Johnston’s season comes to an end at 18-6 overall.
