Spring Break Notebook: Bulldog Invite Day 1

PBR was at Fayetteville’s Terry Sanford HS on Saturday for Day 1 of the Bulldog Invitational.  An 8 team spring break tournament with a championship format featured teams from eastern North Carolina.  Below are the game recaps with player stats and some video coverage from the day.  Scout Blogs and player evaluation will be available later this week.



Richmond - 9 South View - 3


The Raiders got off to a very quick start, plating 5 runs in the top of the 1st to set the tone for their week.  James Eason worked a complete game in the win, giving up just 3 hits and 3 walks, while striking out 4.  


Richmond’s offense was paced by Cameron Way with his 3 hits and 2 runs scored.  Three hitters had multi-hit days. The first inning outburst was started with two walks, and single to load the bases and a SAC Fly.  Five total walks in the inning allowed Richmond to jump out to the lead.  


Dallas Capps homered in the 6th to score the final two runs of the game and give us the final score of 9-3.

East Bladen - 2 Terry Sanfod - 12


The Bulldog offense scored in each of their 5 at-bats, ending the game via the 10 run rule in the 5th.  In total, they pounded out 10 hits with Brady Gore leading the attack with 3 hits and 4 RBI.


On the mound, Ethan Noble worked 4 innings giving up just 2 hits while striking out 2.  Davis McLamb worked the final frame, striking out two.

Northwood - 0 Pinecrest - 5


Cam Bunker eaned the win working a complete game, 2 hit, shutout.  He received all the runs he would need in the 1st when the Patriots plated 3 runs.  


In the 1st, a bases loaded single from Colby Wallace scored Nick DiCarlo and JD Scarborough.  The third run of the inning would score on a double play from the next hitter.  In the 2nd, a 2 out double from DiCarlo would score the Patriots 4th run.  DiCarlo would score on an infield error, a hard hit ball off the bat of Scarborough.


Walker Johnson and Salvador Delgado worked in relief for Northwood, firing 4 scoreless innings to keep the game within range.  The Northwood staff did not walk a batter on the day, forcing Pinecrest to earn their runs.

Midway - 5 Wayne Country Day - 14


The explosive offense of Wayne Country Day was on full display on Day 1 of the Bullodg Invite.  The Chargers plated 4 in the 1st, but lost their lead as Midway chipped away and moved ahead 5-4 after 4 innings.  In the 5th and 6th, the Chargers would total 10 runs to take control of the game.


Mason Moffett totaled 4 hits, with a home run.  Braeden Collins homered twice and knocked in 4 runs.  On the bump Sterling Bass picked up the win in relief, firing 3.1 innings, giving up just 1 run, while striking out 5.


Midway’s starter Hunter Tyndall worked into the 5th inning.  After a rough 1st inning, he settled in giving Midway a chance to make a run at the win.  Offensively Caden Wilson and Grant Barefoot led the way with 2 hits apiece.  Wilson had 2 RBIs.
