Samuel Cozart RHP / Wesleyan Christian Academy, NC / 2025

Sam Cozart entered high school as a highly anticipated talent, carrying the weight of high expectations. With two older brothers who excelled at the high school level and a string of remarkable achievements at younger ages, Cozart was already a well-known name in baseball circles. His journey has been closely followed, and the year 2024 marked a significant chapter in his story, shaped by changes in the recruiting landscape and his own evolving path.

As Cozart began 2024, the world of baseball recruiting was undergoing a transformation. Roster sizes were shrinking, but scholarship allotments and NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals were on the rise, creating new dynamics for athletes in the 2025 class. Adding to the attention was the immense talent on Cozart's high school team. Playing for Wesleyan Christian Academy, a squad loaded with skill, he contributed to their position as North Carolina's preseason No. 1 team in the Power 25 rankings. Wesleyan Christian also gained national recognition with their appearance in the prestigious USA Baseball National High School Invitational. All eyes were on Cozart as he navigated this high-profile environment.

Cozart’s recruiting journey was as eventful as his performance on the field. Early in his high school career, he committed to Mississippi State, a decision that reflected his talent and potential. However, shifts in coaching staffs and the evolving college baseball landscape prompted Cozart to reconsider his options. Eventually, he found a new home with Texas A&M, a move that seemed like the perfect fit for the talented right-hander.

Yet, the twists didn’t stop there. Shortly after the Division I National Championship Series, Texas A&M’s head coach left for the University of Texas. The change paved the way for Cozart to follow Coach Schlossnagle to Austin, where he committed to the Texas Longhorns.

Despite the highs of his recruiting journey, Cozart faced challenges during the 2024 season. A foot injury popped up during his high school campaign, unknowingly hampering his stuff down the stretch. Cozart pitched in game 1 of the NCISAA 4A Championship Series, earning a win in a series that Wesleyan eventually lost. While the injury sidelined him for much of the summer, he made a notable return at the South Atlantic Border Battle, where Prep Baseball was in attendance. His strong performance reaffirmed his status as a player to watch.

As the spring season approaches, Cozart remains a top prospect, drawing significant interest from pro scouts preparing their draft boards for the loaded 2025 class. His resilience, talent, and ability to adapt have positioned him as a standout player with a bright future.

Trenton Maybin OF / 3B / Asheville, NC / 2026

Trent Maybin entered high school with a recognizable name and face, being the son of former MLB outfielder Cameron Maybin. However, Trent has begun to establish his own identity in the baseball world, showcasing his talent and determination to elevate the Maybin legacy. The year 2024 proved to be pivotal for the young athlete as he continued to refine his game and solidify his reputation.

Prep Baseball scouts took notice of Maybin late in the spring as Asheville High School advanced to the second round of the NCHSAA 4A State Playoffs. They faced Reagan High School, one of the tournament favorites. Batting leadoff, Maybin set the tone early with two solid at-bats in the game’s opening innings, helping Asheville build an early lead. His composed approach at the plate and his confidence spread throughout the lineup, energizing his team. While Reagan ultimately staged a thrilling comeback to win, it was clear that the hype surrounding Maybin was well-founded.

Maybin’s summer was equally eventful. He played in the Prep Baseball National Program Invitational with the San Diego Padres Scout Team, a roster filled with highly touted players. Competing at LakePoint, Maybin delivered a strong performance both offensively and defensively, impressing college coaches, professional scouts, and the Prep Baseball scouting staff.

The Padres Scout Team continued their summer schedule at the USA Baseball Team Championships, held at the National Training Complex in Cary, North Carolina. Once again, Maybin played well, competing against some of the nation’s top talent.

Like many top athletes in his class, Maybin faced a changing recruiting landscape in 2024. The introduction of NIL (Name, Image, Likeness) deals and evolving roster slot considerations led to widespread reevaluations of early commitments. Initially committed to Duke, Maybin re-opened his recruitment during the summer, ultimately, he chose to join the Texas Longhorns.

With two years remaining in his high school career, Trent Maybin’s potential is undeniable. His physical frame, reminiscent of his father’s, offers room for added strength and quickness. Already possessing advanced skills, Maybin’s ceiling sets him apart from many of his peers in the 2026 class.

Jacob Seamon OF / SS / Metrolina Christian, NC / 2027

For players who earn high rankings both in-state and nationally, attention naturally follows their Prep Baseball profiles. This is especially true for freshmen, as the high school baseball community works to familiarize itself with the new class. Seamon’s entrance into high school was no exception, having already proven himself in high-profile settings. While it’s debatable whether he was the state’s top player upon arrival, his initial high ranking set the stage for a remarkable debut season.

Seamon’s freshman season was nothing short of extraordinary. The physically gifted left-handed hitter joined the varsity roster at Metrolina Christian, a powerhouse ranked in the top five of the Prep Baseball Preseason Power 25. As the season progressed, the Warriors’ dominance became clear, culminating in an exceptional run in the NCISAA 4A State Tournament.

Entering the tournament as the No. 3 seed and holding the No. 1 spot in the Prep Baseball Power 25, Metrolina Christian delivered on their promise. Seamon played a crucial role in lengthening the Warriors' lineup and providing balance with his left-handed bat. The season’s climax came in a thrilling three-game series at High Point University, where Metrolina Christian secured the state championship by defeating Wesleyan Christian.

While Seamon’s high school season allowed him to blend into a star-studded roster, his performance on the summer circuit set him apart from his peers. At the Prep Baseball National Program Invitational, Seamon’s combination of power at the plate and athleticism earned him high praise from the Prep Baseball scouting staff. His standout showing further solidified his reputation as one of the most promising players in his class.

Seamon’s summer concluded with a prestigious opportunity to join the 16U National Team for Team USA. His size, versatility, and athleticism consistently caught the attention of scouts, but more importantly, he continued to deliver in high-pressure situations. Facing some of the nation’s top pitchers, Seamon proved his ability to compete and excel at the highest levels of amateur baseball.

With new recruiting rules in place, Seamon is well-positioned to focus on his development during the upcoming season. The changes will also provide him the chance to familiarize himself with potential college programs. The Prep Baseball Future Games, the premier event for uncommitted underclass players concludes just before the August 1 contact date for the 2027 class. Seamon is a potential candidate to represent North Carolina at LakePoint.  His prospect status will keep him in the spotlight as he continues to build his legacy through 2025.
