Inside the Recruitment: '16 OF Noah Mehrle commits to Case Western

Noah Mehrle, OF, St. Xavier, Class of 2016

PBR: Why did you choose Case Western?

Mehrle: I chose Case Western because it is a great school and a great baseball program. I am thinking of engineering for my undergrad and Case Western is a perfect fit for that. Also because of the vicinity Case Western is close to home, only a short 3 ½ hour drive.

PBR: What other schools were you considering?

Mehrle: I was considering Emory, Babson, Denison, and Ohio University.

PBR: Where did coaches first see you? How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Mehrle: The coaches first saw me at a Headfirst Honor Roll Camp in Long Island, NY. After that I kept constant contact with Coach Englander and was invited to their prospect camp, where shortly after he offered me.

PBR: What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Mehrle: The coaching staff expects me to compete for a starting job in the outfield as soon as I walk on campus as a freshman.

PBR: What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that you will help program?

Mehrle: My biggest strength as a player is my arm strength and my hitting. I believe I will help Case Western with both of those attributes making myself a solid outfielder and winning championships there.

PBR: Who do you play for in the summer and what was the most memorable experience from this summer?

Mehrle: I play for the Cincinnati Flames. My most memorable experience this summer was making it to bracket play in the WWBA Championship in Atlanta, GA.

PBR: What were your expectations about the recruiting process?

Mehrle: The recruiting process can be time consuming. I am grateful I had the help of my parents. Identifying schools that were a good fit academically was a priority to me in the recruiting process.

PBR: What were your stats last spring season?

Mehrle: .299 AVG., .373 OBP, 10 Runs, 20 Hits, 5 2Bs, 8 SBs

PBR: Who is the toughest pitcher that you have faced in Ohio?

Mehrle: Nick Bennett from Moeller
