By Dylan Hefflinger

BOWLING GREEN- Ashland, ranked No. 4, used timely hitting and exceptional defense behind Stetson recruit, Adam Schaly, to defeat Oregon Clay 5-2, to advance to the Regional finals to take on No. 21 ranked Westlake.

Ashland got on the board early as lead-off hitter, Aric Harris, a Northern Kentucky recruit, walked and moved to second on a single by Schaly. With two outs Derek Ward ripped a single to left to score Harris, who dove head first to beat the tag by Clay catcher, Ty McAfee. Zach Bernhard, crushed a sharp single to center, plating Schaly and Ward. Bernhard later scored on an infield error to put Ashland on top early 4-0.

The Arrows added to their lead in the third as Ward singled and later scored on a Gabe Bradshaw single up the middle. This was the end of the day for Clay starter Jordan Grosjean, a Central Michigan recruit.

Ross Achter came in and pitched well the rest of the way, not allowing a run.  He gave up three hits, while striking out seven.

Schaly, the talented lefty allowed single runs in the second and fifth, allowing six hits and four walks while striking out eight.

The victory by Ashland at Bowling Green State University's Stellar Field , which was the 999th win in program history " sends the Arrows on to a matchup with Westlake at 5 p.m. today at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.
