PBR OK 2024 Rankings Update

Scott Hood
OK/MO/KS/ARK Assistant Scouting Director

After a series of winter events and the start of the 2023 Spring campaign, we have an update to our 2024 rankings that see some big movement and multiple players putting themselves on the map.  The 2024 class has a strong mix of high-end draft/Power 5 type talent at the top of the class but shows it strength in the depth throughout the class of plenty of uncommitted prospects that should be garnering some looks for recruiters.  Today we take a look at the top ten that sees some slight movement, some big movers in the rankings with multiple guys see big rises in this update, and 5 newcomers to the list for the first time.

THE TOP 10

The Top 10 sees only a slight adjustment in this update with all ten players already getting off to strong starts to their Junior seasons.  Our looks at Shull so far this spring continue to solidify his position at the top of the list, Mayfield has been punching out hitters at a crazy rate as well as Wiggins missing bats for Roland.  We got eyes on a short stint for Owen Hall and he continues to show the high end stuff that justify his spot in the pecking order and Owen Coil continues to impress with his all-around game and is off to a hot start for Stillwater.  Brooks continues to rack up hits for an undefeated Tuttle Tigers as well as provide some high-end pitching at the end of games.  The one move in the top ten in this update comes from Jackson Farrell from Owasso moving up two spots to number 7 as he continues to be one of the more feared arms in the State and stuff starting to make another jump.  Hyde-Herrera continues to show the high end tools and projectability that should garner some looks with Bender getting it done on both sides of the ball for Edmond North and Primeaux doing the same for Jenks.

RANKINGS RISERS

Dax McCaskill 3B / 1B / Washington, OK / 2024

We've documented McCaskill's rise over the past couple of months on numerous occasions after strong showings throughout the preseason as well as our looks at him in games this spring.  McCaskill had a strong sophomore campaign, putting up big numbers for the Warriors and solidified his ranking after showing off his combination of speed and strength.  He ran a 6.63 60 and had exit velocities up to 96 mph that when paired with his quick bat allows him to handle high end pitching.   McCaskill sees his stock continue to soar moving from 82nd on our last update all the way up to 14 and is one of the top remaining uncommitted bats in the state.

Luke Graham OF / RHP / Yukon, OK / 2024

Graham was another big mover in this update rising his stock from 81st in the last update up to number 17 on the list.  Graham has one of the more projectable frames in the class at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds and he uses his natural leverage with the bat in his hands to juice ball up to 98.4 mph in exit velocities.  Graham shows a nice smooth rhythm with strong load into the lower half and is able to generate a ton of power with the strength in his legs.  He also shows strong routes to the ball with strong overall bat speed that should project for a strong power tool in the future.

Dylan Baldridge OF / RHP / Lincoln Christian , OK / 2024

Baldridge has continued to work his way back from a tough injury that sidelined him most of his sophomore campaign and is showing no signs of slowing down in our recent looks at him.  Baldridge has strong 2-way abilities with the fastball working up to 87 mph with strong spin and riding life through the zone as feel for shaping two different breaking balls and a fading mid 70's changeup.  Offensively Baldridge has some sneaky pop thanks to quick hands and shows a high level of athleticism that allows him to play all over the diamond.  With his 2-way potential and athleticism, Baldridge sees him self move 16 spots to number 20 on the list.

Carter Sterling 3B / SS / Oklahoma Christian, OK / 2024

If you like projectably build infielders than you might have found that guy in Carter Sterling.  At 6-foot-3 and 175-pounds, Sterling not only is able to use his natural leverage at the plate, but has a simple and compact stroke with hands working quickly through the zone.  Sterling shows tight rotation around the core to generate exit velocities up to 97 mph showing some serious power potential.   What might be most impressive with Sterling is his ability to move defensively even at his height and play underneath the ball.  He shows strong glove action and ability to transfer out of the glove quickly as well as strong lateral range.  Sterling sees a big jump in the rankings moving from 53rd to 29th in this update and could continue to climb in the future as he adds strength to his frame.

Reid Jones 1B / 1B / Bishop Kelley, OK / 2024

Reid Jones might be one of the more imposing hitters in the box for the 2024 class standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing in at 270-pounds.  Even at this size Jones is more agile than one might think showing some athleticism and quick feet for the big first baseman.  Offensively he is able to pack a lot of that power in his hands through the ball with exit velocities up to 96 mph and shows some serious bat speed.  Jones clearly has power potential and should be a fun follow over the next two years as he sees his stock continue to rise moving 25 spots in this update.

Ramsey Morris SS / 2B / Bethel, OK / 2024

Morris sees a big jump in his ranking in this update moving from 145th to 75th thanks to a strong showing at the Preseason All-State.  The left-handed hitting middle infielder shows an athletic swing with understanding of using the lower half in the swing and strong routes to the ball.  He pairs this with advanced bat speed which should translate to more doubles power in the future.  Defensively Morris shows a sure glove and shorter footwork that paired with his athleticism allows him to cover some ground.

Carson Beam RHP / 1B / Heritage Hall, OK / 2024

Beam sees a 30 spot rise in the rankings to number 76 after a strong showing on the mound at the Oklahoma City Preseason ID.  Standing at 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds, Beam uses a shorter arm action and quick hand speed to work the fastball in the mid 80's with heavy sink and arm side running action.  He pairs that nicely with a tight mid 70's slider with strong depth and feel for a fading changeup.  Don't be surprised to see the velocity jump in the future as he continues to add more strength to his large frame.

Gamaliel Jones OF / OF / Union , OK / 2024

Jones has impressed in our early looks at him in 2023 first after his strong showing at the Preseason All-State and in our looks at him in games for Union this spring.  Jones has a controlled swing from the left side and is able to generate a ton of bat speed even from a smaller frame.  With his bat speed and feel for controlling the barrel, Jones has prototypical top of the order type skills in the future and with his speed he is able to not only cover a ton of ground in the outfield but can cause some havoc on the basepaths as well.

TOP NEWCOMERS

Jett Hope RHP / Bixby, OK / 2024

Hope enters the rankings for the first time landing at number 40 for the 2024 class after we got some eyes on him earlier this spring.  Hope has a physical build with a clean delivery that allows the ball to jump out of the hand and make it tough for hitters to square up.  He's worked the fastball in the mid to upper 80's in the past and should continue to see big jumps in velocity in the future and should be one to keep an eye on in the coming months.

Maddox Edwards SS / Oktaha, OK / 2024

We got a strong look at Edwards earlier this Spring and the Connors State commit shined both with the bat as well as at short.  Edwards has a simple stroke with easy rhythm with the ball coming off the barrel hot that should provide for strong gap power in the future.  Defensively he showed smooth actions and a feel for routes working around the ball with enough arm strength to remain on the left side of the infield at the next level.  Oktaha has a history of producing strong middle infielders and Edwards looks like he has the makings of the next one in line in their program's strong lineage.

Kip Christian OF / Oktaha, OK / 2024

Christian showed really well when we saw him this Spring going 3-3 in a game including a double and a grand slam.  Even with his slighter frame, Christian has above average strength at contact thanks to a well-synced up swing and strong rotation around the core.  Christian shows some athleticism as well that plays up in center field and should be on to land on some recruiting radars in the near future.

Robert Evans C / OF / Norman North, OK / 2024

Evans enters the rankings for the first time landing at number 81 on the list thanks to a strong performance at the Stillwater Preseason ID.  Evans has a short path with the hands and is able to generate some bat speed even without the entire use of the lower half.  Defensively he really shined with strong overall arm strength from behind the plate that registered pop times between 1.89-2.03.  The exchange was very quick and the throws showed strong carry and accuracy to the bag.

Dakota Angielski RHP / C / Sperry, OK / 2024

Angielski enters the rankings for the first time at number 97 after a strong bullpen showing at the Preseason All-State.  He shows a projectable build at 6-foot-1 and 187 pounds that paired with his clean operation and arm action should continue to see jumps in velocity in the future.  He shows a feel for spinning the breaking ball with big action as well as the makings of a potential swing and miss changeup in the future.  Angielski should be one to keep an eye on in the future as he continues to gain experience and strength to the frame.
