Class of 2022 Inside the Rankings: Helium Watch

Each week leading up to the new year, we'll be rolling out Inside the Rankings articles to further highlight the movement around the ‘22 classes in PA and NY. This week our focus shifts to “Helium Watch” candidates, prospects that have shown consistent growth and could be making another jump in the rankings soon. 

2022 c tommy czarzasty (malvern prep)

The Spin: Efficient and explosive at 5-foot-8, 170lbs, Czarzasty generates good burst in all phases with one of the more trusted defensive skillsets in the class. The primary backstop does everything well, receiving from multiple setups (LKD, traditional) while completely shutting down the run-game at times with a quick trigger and 81 mph arm strength on the front-side. The Malvern Prep product pays attention to the little details, comfortably equipped to lead a staff from behind the dish while working hard to limit free-90’s using an effort-packed, hard-nosed blocking technique. More importantly, the offense is starting to catch up with good rotational strength (21.2 G’s) and tangible bat-speeds producing consistent doubles power to both gaps. As loose, confident athleticism continues carrying over with an accompanied 6.78 60-yard dash, the ceiling could be even higher than expected down the road. All things considered, this is a more than capable uncommitted prospect that has possible day-one starter abilities at the next level.

The Performance: 7/29/21, MSI Summer Tournament | Recorded a duo of hits combined with an eye-raising caught-stealing throw on the money. Effortless, fluid transfer from glove to throwing hand and really drives the backside through the plate on the release.
