Q and A with Mount Saint Mary's Commit Alain Girman

Alain Girman

Q and A with Alain Girman, a 5-foot-10, 160-pound LHP/OF, Serra Catholic HS, Class of 2012

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Girman:  I have decided to attend the University of Mount Saint Mary’s located in Emmitsburg, MD. The reasons for my commitment to the Mount include being able to be an impact pitcher as a freshman, and I was offered a very healthy scholarship. The Mount also has a beautiful campus, with an amazing staff to wrap up a dream for experience.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Girman:  The other schools I was considering include Penn State, East Carolina, Pitt, NC State and Stanford

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Girman:  I would definitely say that being close to my home played a huge part in my decision making process. I have never really been away from my family for a long period of time and felt like it would be nice to be able to come home and see everyone on a weekend or holiday.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Girman:  I believe they saw me in the PIAA State Championship game, invited me for a visit to the college, and once I met the coaching staff and the strength trainer I knew it would be a very good fit for me.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Girman:  I believe the coaching staff at the Mount has high expectations for me as a pitcher. I want to go in there as a freshman and get guys out, keep the ball low in the zone, and keep the batters off balance.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?

Girman:  I feel that my ambition and motivation plays a big part in getting my team ready before games, not only physically, but mentally. Even though it takes a lot of talent for a team to win games, the mental aspect is crucial to remain relaxed and calm under pressure.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Girman:  I currently play in the AAABA wooden bat league for the Renegades located out of Johnstown, PA. My most memorable moment playing in this league was in the playoffs last summer, I started one game going 7 and 1/3 innings, only giving up 3 hits and striking out 13 batters.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?

Girman:  My current GPA is 3.2

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Girman:  My main goal for the team this year is to win another championship, whether it is the district of the state final. As far as individually, my goal this year is to be dominant on the hill, being able to throw all 3 of my pitches in the zone during any count. I worked very hard this winter on my strength and becoming technically sound and consistent as a pitcher.  It is also a goal of mine to be drafted this June.
