HOUSTON, TX - St. John’s Mavericks hosted the John Cooper Dragons on Wednesday night in an SPC matchup.

John Cooper 2019 LHP Evan Godwin (No. 40 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings and No. 295 in 2019 PBR overall rankings, committed to Baylor) got the start and went 4.1 shutout IP. He allowed three hits and six walks with ten strikeouts as well. 2019 RHP Reed Smith (No. 169 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings, committed to Northwestern) finished off the shutout and got the save going the final 2.2 IP allowing one hit and two walks with four strikeouts.

The Dragons were led offensively by 2019 SS Evan Minarovic (No. 141 in 2019 PBR Texas rankings, committed to Northwestern) who was 2-4 with a double and an RBI and Godwin who was 1-3 with an RBI.

For St. John’s, 2019 RHP/SS Matthew Guyton had a solid outing in relief. He went 4.2 IP allowing two runs on three hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Offensively for the Mavericks, they had four different players record hits; 2021 2B Jack Goldstein, 2021 1B Katcher Halligan (No. 41 in 2021 PBR Texas rankings), 2021 OF Tyson Luna and Guyton.

Baylor commit. Estimated 6-foot-2, 190-pound, athletic frame. The left-hander throws from a high ¾ slot with a long arm swing. His fastball was 87-89 mph, touching 90 mph. He threw a curveball at 72-75 mph with 11-5 shape. Threw it inside on righties a lot and also got some swing and miss away to lefties. He also a slider at 77-78 mph with sweeping action. At the plate, the left-handed hitter features a high leg lift with a long, athletic swing.
