The Maryland High School Scouting Blog provides insider information and scouting notes from the PBR Staff. This running blog will feature information on a wide variety of uncommitted talent as well as updates on committed and ranked players, as well as draft prospect. We will provide a wide range of information, including player evaluations, velocity, pop times, home to first times, and more. This running blog is continuously updated throughout the high school season and then also throughout the year and you will see what boots-to-the-ground really means.

State Scout blogs are one of the most highly viewed pages on the PBR website. It is a tribute to our never ending quest of discovering talent across our area of coverage and our boots-to-the-ground approach to scouting.

So what is better than being in a scout blog? Having a PBR profile to connect you with. Find our next event near you.

Colonel Richardson

Jackie Zebron OF 2020
Projectable, athletic frame. Versatile athlete, has shown ability to play multiple positions in the field with ease. Started in center field and showed confident first step and ability to cover ground. Might move to corner at next level. Short swing at the plate. Pulls hands inside the baseball, knack for keeping the barrel on the ball. Video shows ball that he pulled hands in on and flicked out to right center.

Ty Scott SS/RHP 2019
Uncommitted and interesting two-way prospect. At the plate, hits from an athletic set up with a short swing and some bat speed. Should hit for average with a gap to gap approach. Potential for more there with some fundamental adjustments, most notably freeing up his hands more. On the mound has a controlled, deliberate delivery with average leg kick and hands rise with leg. Has an athletic arm action that is free, quick, and whippy. Slight pause at separation. Glides downhill with little backside involvement, room for more there. Creates quick arm speed while pitching with regular effort fastball ranged from 83 – 86 mph touching 87. Pitch has slight run on the pitch. Sometimes caused more so by falling off the mound in finish. Breaking ball is sharp with average control. 11/5 shape at 75 mph.

Remy Mangum RHP/IF 2019 (Chesapeake CC)
Long and lanky projectable frame. On the mound, pitches stretch only, deliberate lower leg kick working towards the plate. Has High tilt with pause after separation. Creates some arm speed while throwing from an almost over-the-top slot. Fastball is straight with occasional sink to the pitch that range from 80-84 mph. Breaking ball was bigger wit 11/5 shape and gradual break. At the plate looks like he has a lot of potential. Hits from the left side in an athletic, open set up with hands at chest level. Gets medium leg kick in load with some weight shift. Lands slightly closed off with good balance to hitting position. Hands work well, shorter swing with some bat speed. Power potential is there as well. Could develop into a nice middle of the order guy down the road.

St. Michaels

Nick Newnam 1B/OF 2019 (Harford CC)
Harford Commit. Hits from a taller, slightly open set up at the plate with some rhythm. Simple leg kick load at the plate with nice balance. Level path and plat with a barrel that stays in the zone. Quick hands and bat speed. Great ability to find barrel. Plays very fast on the bases and gets down the line. Might take a little bit of an adjustment to game speed at next level, but the way the hands work, he should continue to hit at a high level.

Ben Morris, LHP 2020
Uncommitted. Solid frame. Sidestep delivery with decent pace. Higher leg kick that works down to out. Average lower half involvement with slight cross body action. Spins towards third base in finish. Has a clean arm action throwing from a three quarter slot. Creates quick arm speed with regular effort. Fastball got up to 85 mph with arm side run, sat 82-85. Throws a soft breaking ball at 57-59 mph. Has potential to throw a better one, just needs some work. Did not show a change up. One to keep an eye on, especially as his secondary stuff develops.
