John Paul II Catholic  0 The Burlington School  7

PBR was on hand for Sunday's 3rd round game of the NCISAA 3A State Playoffs with The Burlington School hosting John Paul II Catholic.  The game was tight throughout with a magnificent performance from Burlington Schools' senior RHP Wagner Morrissette getting the Spartans through to the Quaterfinals.

Morrissette worked all 7 innings, giving up just 3 hits and striking out 14 in the shutout.  The first hitter of the game, Cash Daniels-Moye turned around a fastball, tripling to right field.  Morrissette set down the next three hitters via three strikeouts.

Dillon Gregory, John Paul's starter, kept the Saints in the game, working into the 5th inning, keeping TBS off the board for his first 4 innings.  In the 5th, Sammy Edwards got on by HBP for the Spartans.  A sacrifice moved him to 2B with 1 out.  An error and a HBP loaded the bases where relief arm Quinn McCaffrey got a strikeout.  With two outs, Max Gustafson singled in the 4-hole, driving in two.  Pinch hitter Zack Cimino, with an apparent leg injury, pinch hit for Morrissette, driving in the 3rd run on a hard ground ball through the 6-hole.

The Spartans would add four in the bottom of the sixth, keyed by a two out, 3-run homer to dead center off the bat of Landon Parker, moving the score to 7-0.

The Burlington School improves to 19-6 overall and will play on Tuesday at Eastern Guilford HS, hosting Rocky Mount Academy.  John Paul II Catholic's year comes to an end at 15-9.
