From June 2-4, PBR Maryland was on-hand in Salisbury, Md., at the site of the PBRT Maryland Open. You can find pitching velocities from the event on this page, as well as rosters and the additional content that will be produced from this event.

Today, we’ll be identifying the top Class of 2024 talent in attendance this past weekend, ranking the top-five overall prospects, and highlighting some more of the talent worth following through the remainder of the summer.

 BEST IN SHOW, 2024 PROSPECTS

Dalton Blades RHP / PDG Academy, VA / 2024

This 6-foot-5, 200-pound incoming senior is one of the top uncommitted right-handers in Virginia. At the Maryland Open, Blades worked in the 85-87 mph range, touching 88, working efficiently down the mound from a low-effort delivery. It’s a premium fastball with substantial carry/ride through the zone that projects to miss bats on its own at the top of the strike zone, and he pairs it effectively with a 73-74 mph curveball that works off a vertical plane.

Noah Burroughs RHP / SS / Sussex central, DE / 2024

Noah Burroughs: We were looking forward to seeing Burroughs again last weekend, as we highlighted him within our Maryland Open, Preview story prior to the tournament, and the two-way senior did not disappoint. He reached an 88 mph high from the mound, sitting 84-87, paired with confidence in a swing-and-miss slider, 72-74. He also launched a no-doubt home run from the right-handed box on Saturday, underscoring his potential on both sides of the ball.

Luke Bookoff C / OF / Winston Churchill, MD / 2024

Backstop Bookoff showed off a very skilled right-handed barrel at the Maryland Open, utilizing all fields from a simple and compact swing. He’s a strong, proportional 6-foot, 180-pound prospect with efficient catch-and-throw skills from behind the plate.

Pierce Tewskbury 3B / Bethesda Chevy-Chase, MD / 2024

Maryland prospect Tewksbury blossomed into a follow prospect over the weekend for DMV Prospects, which ultimately won the 17U division of the Maryland Open. He’s an athletic infielder/right-hander with a short and quick swing from the right side that looked promising in Salisbury. On the mound, he works uptempo from a high front side in the mid-80s, reaching 86-87 mph at times, coupled with an above-average breaking ball, 70-72 mph, that he showed feel for.

Jake Witter OF / Quince Orchard , MD / 2024

Witter used this past weekend to launch himself into the group of on-the-rise incoming seniors to monitor this summer. He began June in an ideal way, launching a home run on the opening day of action. He stayed hot for DMV Prospects, however, en route to the team’s 17U tourney title. He’s an athletic, lean 6-foot-1 prospect with a fast, strong left-handed swing, and he also has arm strength in the outfield.

MORE FOLLOW PROSPECTS (Listed Alphabetically)

+ Bobby Burk, RHP, Bethesda Country Club HS, MD (2024), uncommitted: Burk is a lanky 6-foot-2 right-hander who we saw up into the 85-86 mph range this year for both his travel club as well as his high school.

+ T.J. Legere, INF/RHP, Wall HS, NJ (2024), uncommitted: Legere was productive this past weekend for Tri State Arsenal, and as a two-way player. He swung a hot right-handed bat with some feel for the barrel. Additionally, from the mound, he worked from a near-sidearm slot at 82-85 mph, demonstrating control, especially for a prospect utilizing that kind of arm slot. The fastball naturally runs hard to the arm-side, and it effectively complements a tight, biting and sharply spun breaking ball, 69-70 mph – a pitch that registered spin rates over 2,600 rpm on average at the PBR New Jersey Preseason All-State event in early March.

+ Thomas Matuszewski, 3B/OF/RHP, Oxford Area HS, PA (2024), uncommitted: From the West Chester Dragons, Matuszewski looked like a prospect to add to follow lists this summer over the weekend in Salisbury. The Pennsylvania product has loud bat strength in the right-handed swing, as well as real bat speed. He’s a strong 6-foot, 190-pound prospect with sound actions on the left side of the infield, maybe more fit for third base long-term, but the arm carries across the diamond – and he also up to 87 mph on the mound, too.

+ Bryce Mitchell, MIF/RHP, Damascus HS, MD (2024), uncommitted: Mitchell was another prospect that we highlighted coming into the event who really showed well over the weekend – and again, as another two-way follow. He swings a loose and quick right-handed bat with simplicity that allows him to spray all fields, using his opposite field effectively and often. His athleticism stands out in multiple ways, with twitchy bat and hand speed in the box, in addition to a quick arm that plays on the infield and on the mound. He worked 83-85 mph this past weekend with a fastball that plays up, with feel over a tight breaking ball that he locates well, 74-75.

+ Lextyn Westcott, 3B/SS, Cape Henlopen HS, DE (2024), uncommitted): Westcott emerged as a premium projection prospect over the course of the spring high school season, and he maintained that momentum in Salisbury over the weekend for East Coast Royals. Listed at 6-foot-2, 185 pounds, Westcott has high-end athleticism and strength in the right-handed swing that should only become more useful as he fills out his lean build.
