Sophomore Winter Standouts

Nathan Rode and PBR Staff

Winter events have been going on around the country for the last several weeks and many players are showing improvements. We’ve highlighted some standout seniors and juniors already. Now, here are some sophomores who have stood out recently.

Michael Allen, OF, JH Rose HS, NC
Allen has a strong, athletic frame at 5-foot-9, 185 pounds with a thick, defined lower half. A dual-sport athlete, he is also receiving interest in football. He ran a powerful 3.61-second 30-yard dash this winter. He hits from the right side with a relaxed, balanced set-up. The hands are quick and strong and he takes a short path with the barrel, staying in the zone and creating loud gap-to-gap contact. In the outfield, he plays through the ball with quick feet, average hands and clean transfers. He makes accurate throws from a high-3/4 slot at 84 mph.
