Top Prospect Games West: Middle Infield Analysis

26 players from the Old Line State, Virginia, and Pennsylvania participated in this year's Top Prospect Games West at Frederick CC. Players were put through a pro-style workout and played a game in front of our PBR Maryland staff and various college coaches from across the Mid-Atlantic region. Below are evaluations on the eight middle infielders at the event. 

 

Middle INFIELDERS

(Listed Alphabetically)

Josh Ayala SS / C / TC Williams , VA / 2023

Body: 6’0”, 180 pounds. Athletic, well put together frame with tangible strength. 
Hit: RHH. Balanced, even stance with the upper half holding tilt over the plate. Utilized a short toe tap stride to initiate his swing through a flat path into the hitting zone while staying connected over the backside creating big time results. Hard contact to the pull side and ability to lift the low pitch with an active lower half. Matched pitch plane early (76% on plane via Blast Motion) and hit the ball on the barrel where it was thrown. 
Power: 93 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Home run pop down the left field line and consistent damage on pitches down in the zone over the plate. 
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Moderate takeaway with a short, quick release out in front from high 3/4. 
Defense: Easy, low effort footwork, arriving on time to the fielding window at an adequately postured position. A soft glove hand worked out in front, funneling back into the belt-line. Accurate throws across the diamond and held the same arm slot throughout. 
Run: 7.20 60-yard time.


Clayton Dorsey SS / 2B / Westminster, MD / 2024

Body: 5’9”, 150 pounds. Lean/high-waisted, athletic frame with noticeable feel in the movements. 
Hit: RHH. Balanced, even stance with a slight bend in the knees as the hands featured quiet rhythm at the shoulder. Utilized a lift and replace stride to initiate the swing through a flat path into the hitting zone. Showcased a mostly pull side approach, working into a soft front side with weight shift with regularity. Mostly upper-half dominated swing at the moment with more power on the horizon, feel for the barrel was evident with a fluid, sudden turn. 
Power: 82 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Developing doubles power down the left field line, elevated on occasion. 
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Loose, high ¾ slot with accuracy on the bag, could throw from multiple angles on the run. 
Defense: Hop in the prep step with adequate pace towards the fielding window, presenting a soft glove hand out in front from a medium-downward posture. Beat the ball to the spot with average pace yielding ability to handle plays in any direction. 
Run: 7.81 60-yard time.


Jeremy Fullerton SS / RHP / Winters Mill, MD / 2022

Body: 6’0”, 155 pounds. Long and lean, leveraged frame with room to hold more strength as he matures. 
Hit: RHH. Tall, narrow stance as the knees pointed inward and hands idle on the shoulder; utilized a slight move upward for the load/launch position coupled with a lift and replace stride before unleashing through a flat, whippy path. Feel for the pull-side with extra rotation to the third base line, liked to handle the pitch above the belt by getting the hands on top. More power coming as he gets stronger. 
Power: 81 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Developing doubles power to the pull side gap.
Arm: RH. INF - 73 mph. Accurate OTT slot with a moderate takeaway (accurate on the bag). 
Defense: Hop in the prep step with natural fluidity on the approach, gets down low with the butt and posture allowing the hands to play in front and funnel inward, moved extremely well to the glove hand side when ranging. 
Run: 7.54 60-yard time.


Christopher Morabito SS / 2B / Mclean, VA / 2023

Body: 5’11”, 170 pounds. Long/lean, athletic frame with projection as he matures. 
Hit: LHH. Balanced, slightly bent stance with the hands loose and low outside the shoulder. Utilized a slight lift and replace stride to initiate the bat head through a sudden, accurate/flat path into the hitting zone. Line drive approach with top of the order tendencies. The ball really jumped off the barrel through the middle of the field at head height, the hips and hands worked flawlessly together; mature hitter. 
Power: 92 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Doubles power with ability to go for extra bases to either gap. Power starts to become evident when getting extended at the front of the plate. 
Arm: RH. INF - 78 mph. Low ¾ to ¾ slot with accuracy across the diamond from a quick takeaway. 
Defense: Not afraid to come and attack the baseball, settling at a wide position with soft hands funneling out in front. Solid pace and some range to the glove hand side while being able to handle plays on the run with ease. 
Run: 7.34 60-yard time.


Tyson Nercessian SS / RHP / DeMatha , MD / 2022

Body: 5’11”, 175 pounds. Athletic, well put together frame with quality movement patterns throughout his game. 
Hit: RHH. Wide, slightly bent and balanced stance with the hands shallow near the ear to start; stretched back beyond the shoulder for load positioning coupled with a controlled leg hang to initiate the bat head through a flat and slightly uphill path into the hitting zone. Elevated to pull with a lofty approach and leverage at the front of the plate. Hit into a stiff front side and came up out of the posture at times. On time with the turns yielding occasional juice for extra-bases on pitches up in the zone. 
Power: 83 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Doubles power when getting pitches out over the plate. 
Arm: RH. INF - 77 mph. Moderate takeaway and high ¾ slot with accuracy across the diamond and repeatability. 
Defense: Adequate pace approaching with a low posture and soft glove hand out in front. Didn’t try to do too much and allowed early momentum to take him downhill through the ball; fluid defender with projection to stick on the left side. 
Run: 7.47 60-yard time.


Jack Peyser SS / RHP / Quince Orchard , MD / 2023

Body: 6’0”, 150 pounds. Long, athletic frame with projectability throughout, long levers in all phases. 
Hit: RHH. Starts from a bent, slightly open stance with the hands wiggling above the shoulder at ear height. Utilized a leg-lift stride to a wide land in order to initiate the bat head through a flat path. Fluid barrel at launch, having no issues bursting into extension with authority. Can get slightly uphill through the baseball creating an upward launch, and backspin to the pull side gap. 
Power: 85 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Doubles power with legitimate potential to add power as he becomes stronger, swing works at a high level. 
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Short, high ¾ slot with ability to manipulate arm angles based on the play, accurate release on the run and can handle all the plays in either direction.
Defense: Gets to the right of the ball immediately with a quick first step, taps the feet and attacks out in front with soft, loose hands. Funnels into the body allowing for a lengthy exchange into the throwing hand and on its way out towards the bag. 
Run: 7.70 60-yard time.


Bodie Pullen 2B / SS / James Wood, VA / 2022

Body: 6’1”, 165 pounds. Athletic, projectable frame with natural feel for his body and the game. 
Hit: RHH. Open, wide stance back loaded slightly on the right leg, utilized a sudden move upwards to load above the shoulder coupled with an easy lift and replace stride to initiate his swing through a flat path. Really simple approach, using the middle of the field mostly and beating the ball to the front of the plate for leverage; low intent but smooth operation overall yielding positive results in the box. 
Power: 88 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Doubles power with occasional home run juice to LCF gap when there’s extra intent behind it. 
Arm: RH. INF - 75 mph. Accurate, short over the top slot that could continue adding strength. 
Defense: Active footwork, getting to the right of the ball early and working downhill with momentum. Soft, accurate hands that funneled inward to the chest flashing pace in/out of the glove. Handled plays in any direction as well as on the run, manipulating arm slots accurately. 
Run: 6.74 60-yard time.


Jackson Strzelczyk SS / OF / South Carroll, MD / 2023

Body: 5’9”, 148 pounds. Lean, athletic build with efficient movements in all phases of the game. Room to continue holding strength on the frame. 
Hit: RHH. Loose, rhythmic setup at a wide, even base as the hands showed slight movement low off the shoulder. Utilized a short lift and replace stride to initiate the bat head through a short, flat path into the hitting zone. Tight turns and did not miss the barrel during batting practice, showing high level bat to ball skills to the pull side. Top of the order tendencies coupled in the approach with ability to stay up the middle as well on a line. 
Power: 84 mph exit velocity during BP per TrackMan. Developing doubles power down the left field line; showed comfort in elevating that direction. 
Arm: RH. INF - 76 mph. Lengthy, high ¾ slot and can also keep it shorter at a V-slot when being quicker on the release. Accurate throws to the target. 
Defense: Was the aggressor, getting downhill through the baseball and picking the attack point, added some range to either side with advanced feel for the glove hand side, using a smooth exchange and rhythmic glove tap before firing. 
Run: 7.18 60-yard time.
