Preseason Tournament - 2/25 vs. Seneca, 2/26 vs. West Oak, 3/1 @ Pendleton, 3/3 @ Walhalla

SPRING BREAK:
Bear Invitational (either at Crescent or BHP, teams tbd) - Dates: 3/11 - 3/14

STARTERS RETURNING: 6 - CF, SS, 3B, 1B, RF, LF

RETURNING PITCHERS: 2 - We lose 91% of our innings pitched from last year.

WHAT TO WATCH FOR:
Will be a solid defensive team and have the chance to be fairly dynamic on offense and expect to be strong up the middle of our defense at catcher, shortstop/2nd base, and center field. The rest of the outfield should have plenty of speed and instincts.  Offensively, the speed and athleticism carries over, plus the lineup will return 2 players who hit over .400 last year, and 3 more who hit .315 or better.

QUOTE FROM THE COACH:
Our staff is excited about the '22 version of Powdersville because it will be a young group that should grow as the season progresses. We only have 4 seniors and 2 juniors, so the contributions from young guys/first year varsity players will determine what the ceiling of this team can be.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Gavin Troyer

Class of 2022 / SS

Player Information

  • Primary Position: SS
    Secondary Position: 2B
  • High School: Powdersville
    State: SC
  • Summer Team: Canes
  • Height: 6-1
    Weight: 170lbs
  • Bat/Throw: L/R

Gavin Troyer,
INF/OF, 2022, Limestone, 6'1 175 lbs, Throws R, bats L. Gavin hit .402 with a homer, 9 doubles & 25 RBI last year and hit his best during our playoff run. Athletic player who has added some bulk and strength. Played 2nd base last year, but depending on who is pitching can slide over to short and also play well in the OF.

Zach Stover

Class of 2023 / OF

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2023
  • Primary Position: OF
  • High School: Powdersville
    State: SC
  • Height: 6-1
    Weight: 175lbs
  • Bat/Throw: R/R

Zach Stover,
CF, 2023, 6'1 190 lbs, Throws R, Bats R. As a sophomore, Stover took over as the everyday right fielder. He proceeded to hit .318 with 2 homers, 2 triples and 8 doubles. He will be expected to slide over to CF this year and bump to the top 1/3 of the order. Has added a lot of good weight and muscle, and has run a 6.6. Hard worker & good leader. Speed and power potential make him an exciting follow this spring. Colleges need to get on this guy.

Eli Hudgins

Class of 2024 / SS

Player Information

  • Graduating Class: 2024
  • Primary Position: SS
  • High School: Powdersville
    State: SC
  • Height: 5-10
    Weight: 165lbs
  • Bat/Throw: R/R

Eli Hudgins,
SS/RHP, 2024, 6' 165 lbs, Throws R, Bats Switch. Took over as the everyday SS as a freshman last year and caught a lot of eyes. Hit .325 and stole 13 bases while playing a very dynamic shortstop. Tons of athleticism and speed, power potential as well, mainly from right side. 2 year starting QB on the football team has helped his strength, toughness & leadership. Big time competitor. Will bump to the top of the order this year, and also is expected to be one of if not the best pitcher on staff. Expect mid 80s FB by the season starts. College player for sure.

Braden Williams, INF/RHP, 2024 5'9 150, throws R, bats R. As a freshman played a very good defensive 1B & hit .406 in 27 games, was a mainstay in the lineup. Baseball junkie, soaks up coaching and the game, and is just a hitter. Never was overmatched as a freshman last year against some good mid-upper 80s arms. Versatile enough to play 3B, but he is very valuable at 1st. Will log some innings this year as he has shown some potential in the fall. Needs to add some good weight, but someone will eventually get a steal because of how he approaches the game.
