LEBANON, TN - The Nashville Open + Rising Stars showcase were both held on Wednesday, July 13th at John McNeal Field on the campus of Friendship Christian. This event was an open event that consisted of nearly 50 prospects from the 2023-2027 classes. These players went through a pro-style workout and took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion to record hitting metrics. Pitchers were able to throw bullpens and were able to get numbers and metrics off of our Trackman unit, such as pitch velocity, spin rate, horizontal & vertical movement & much more. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing on Tuesday.

Kicking off our post-event coverage for these events, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the each day. Continuing over the course of the next week or so, we will release Statistical Leaderboards for the event then transition into releasing individual scouting reports for each player in attendance.

Quick Hits:

Lance Angell, RHP, Beech, 2023
Uncommitted, 6-foot-2, 170-lb lean, proportional frame w/ plenty of projection and room to add strength. Repeats a simple delivery w/ controlled tempo. High leg lift, tall n fall down the slope w/ square foot landing. Long, loose arm action w/ quick arm speed. FB comes out the hand clean at 85-86 (T 2104 rpm) w/ slight arm side action. Stays around the zone with it and can use his offspeed around it. CB at 68-71 w/ depth and 11/5 action. Gets some late bite, as he landed for strikes and buried for chase. Above average CH at 76-78, showing feel for the pitch w/ fade and some depth. Balanced well rounded three-pitch mix, change speeds and looks to keep hitters guessing. An uncommitted 2023 arms that will be jumping into the rankings after a strong showing.

Ben LaLance, RHP, Siegel, 2023
Uncommitted, 6-foot-4, 195-lb tall, long leg frame w/ plenty of projection and room to add strength. Stock delivery w/ strong balance point. Drop n drive backside extending his stride down the slope w/ square foot landing. Shorter, stabby arm action, getting the arm up on foot plant and working up to H 3/4 slot. FB at 83-85 w/ solid spin and slight ASR at times (T 2161 rpm). More velocity in the tank, but a solid base to mix his offspeed. CB at 67-69 (T 2143 rpm) w/ great shape and sharp 12/6 action. Landed for strikes and potential as swing n miss offering. Mixes SL at 73-75  (T 2051 rpm), which varies in shape but 10/4 action plane. Occasionally cuts w/ gyro spin, but when right gets sharp late bite w/ depth as chase pitch. CH at 71-74 rounds out his mix w/ solid feel and some fade. A traditional pitchability guy, who has made a velocity jump and flashing more upside with his off speed offerings, definitely trending upwards as a rising senior.

David Langley, OF/RHP, Davidson Academy, 2023
Uncommitted, 5-foot-11, 215-lb strong, developed frame w/ physicality and strength throughout. Wide, crouched stance w/ high hands. Compact load and small stride. Generates advanced bat speed and controls the barrel thru contact w/ uphill plane. Heavy pull side approach w/ flashes of gap power (T 91.1) and solid barrels. Defensively, solid runner (7.41 sixty) and fits in corner spot. Attacks the ball out front and short, compact arm action w/ solid arm strength (80 OF Velo).

KeJon Wood, OF, Watertown, 2023
5-foot-5, 120-lb small, compact frame w/ great athleticism and quick twitch. Tall, balanced stance w/ pre-set hand load and double tap stride. Generates average bat speed, quick hands, and heavy rotation (T 29 G). Flat bat path, getting on plane early and often. Middle to pull side approach w/ line drives power. Defensively, profiles as CF with blazing speed (6.78 sixty) and light feet. Covered ground well and developing arm strength (76 OF velo). Undersized rising senior, but can do variety of things playing a premium position and pressuring defense in various ways.

Lake Morris, LHP, Hendersonville, 2024
Uncommitted, 5-foot-10, 145-lb lean, wiry frame w/ a high waist and room to add strength. Quiet, repeatable delivery, keeping the head still and on target. Very efficient w/ tall n fall down the slope and square foot landing. Long, spiral arm action working up to 3/4 slot w/ great arm speed. Attacked the zone with FB at 82-84 w/ good spin (T 2272 rpm). Ball jumps out the hand with great carry and life (T 19.7 IVB). Mixed a pair of breaking balls w/ swing n miss action. Sharp mini hammer CB at 70-72 (T 2816 rpm) w/ no distinct hump, tunneling off the FB. Biting 10/4 SL at 73-75 (T 2815 rpm), plenty of sweep and horizontal action. Lands the CB for more strikes, but SL has more swing n miss w/ ability to bury in to RHH. Very solid CH at 76-77 w/ lateral bite neutralizing RHH hitters and feel for the zone. Small frame, but big time stuff and feel for 4-pitch mix, makes Morris a big time southpaw to follow.
