The Nashville Preseason ID event was held Sunday, January 2nd at Showtime Sports Academy in Franklin, TN. This event kicked off the 2022 slate with players ranging from the classes of 2022-2025. These players went through an extended pro-style workout, took batting practice using Trackman and Blast Motion sensors. There were some players who showed up and continued to build off of prior performances, but there were also some new names who jumped onto our radar with a strong showing after a long offseason.

Continuing our post-event coverage for this event, we take a look back at some of the top performers and standouts from the event. Please feel free to dive into our Stat Story, highlighting metric leaderboards, and the Trackman Files, emphasizing batted ball and pitch data. Prospect videos and metrics are live in player profiles, and we continue to knock out individual scouting reports over the following weeks.

Others to Watch

Alexander Sifford, 3B, Ensworth, 2024
Currently a top 50 player in the 2024 class rankings, the 6-foot-1, 160  third baseman built off a good showing last fall. Posted the 2nd best sixty time at 6.88 (Up from a 7.03 this fall) along with improved arm strength (77 INF Velo) and consistency with the bat (T 89.8 exit velocity; Avg: 82 mph). Offensively, gets the foot down early and doesn't get cheated on his swings. More of a line drive hitter with flashes of gap power as he gets stronger, but can put pressure on defenses with his speed to stretch doubles or beat balls in the infield. Defensively, light on his feet with consistent footwork and great glove presentation. Crisp transfers and short arm action.

Ty Martin, 1B, Smith County, 2024
Big body first baseman at 6-foot-2, 250-pounds and showing drastic improvements from our look this past fast. Country strong bat that can bop it around the yard (T 97.4 exit velocity; Avg: 86.5 mph) and looks to slug it to drive in runs. Quiet hands with a moderate leg kick while looking to lift the ball into the power alleys. Defensively, very sound with consistent hands, sure footwork, and below average arm. Not a strong runner, but Martin is surely developing into a bat to follow.

Thor Williams, OF, Anderson County, 2022
5-foot-10, 180-pound outfielder with proportional frame and present strength. Showed improvement from his performance last year as he preps for his final Spring season. Tall, stance with active load and coiled leg kick. Slight improvement in exit velocities (T 88.5 mph; Avg: 81.6), but more uphill swing plane and getting better carry on batted balls (T 330 ft; Avg: 232 ft). Defensively, average runner (7.44 sixty) and solid fielding, but stiffness in the arm action limiting his arm strength. Profiles best as a LF option moving forward.

Easton Barnett, RHP/2B, Stewarts Creek, 2024
5-foot-9, 160-pound two way prospect with proportional frame making his PBR showcase debut. On the bump, quiet, repeatable delivery with good arm speed working up to 3/4 slot in short arm action. FB worked 78-80 with some heaviness and slight arm side action (T 2015 rpm; Avg: 1856 rpm). Mixed downer CB at 64-66 (T 1711 rpm) with good shape and speed differential to keep hitters off balanced. Best off speed was CH at 69-72 with good deception off FB including fade and depth. Stays on top of it and lets the grip work throwing down in the zone and away from LHH. Positionally, fits the profile for a second baseman. Consistent defender with thorough fielding process and average arm strength, but below average runner. Offensively, wide stance with no stride and long load, but handles the barrel with strong two handed finish. Line driver hitter (T 85 exit velo;  T 275 ft) with uphill swing plane, who can be a gap guy as he matures and gets stronger.

William McCoy, RHP, Brentwood Academy, 2023
6-foot, 175-pound right handed pitcher with present strength and some projection. Simple delivery, keeping the head still and moving linear down the slope with square foot landing. Long arm action working up to 3/4 slot with good arm speed. Heavy FB worked 78-80 ( T 1920 rpm; Avg: 1865 rpm) with arm side life and slight sink. Mixed CB at 71-73 (T 1912 rpm) with no hump and late, downer bite, throwing it both for strikes or bury for chase. Solid feel for CH at 74-75 with some arm side action and solid speed differential. It plays well off the running FB and he keeps it around the zone while avoiding the heart of the plate. McCoy isn't lighting up guns (yet), but he can control three complimentary pitches and pitch his way through some lineups.

Tyler Wilson, RHP, Middle TN Christian, 2024
5-foot-10, 160-pound right hander with wiry frame and slight projection. Close feet, slightly staggered delivery with small first step. Works up to strong balance point before letting his arm quickly jump up to H 3/4 slot. Long arm action that is loose and whippy. FB sat 77-80 with strong spin metrics (T 2360 rpm; Avg: 2295 rpm). Gets get pull on the ball, allowing it to carry through the zone and potential to beat barrels up even with average velocity. Mixed true 12/6 action CB at 63-66 (T 2021 rpm; Avg: 1884 rpm) with good shape and bite. Showed ability to throw for strikes or work it to outer 1/3 with potential of garnering chase. Average CH at 70-74, showing slight arm side action and ability to keep it around the plate. Not a polished offering, but maintains arm speed to work nicely off the FB. Wilson shows the ability to spin it and pitchability to keep hitters honest.
