The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Outlook:

The Saints were D2-AA state runner up in 2021 and lost some key contributors from that team. Last year, it was a roller coaster as they had some good stretches and some tough stretches, but they found their groove to capture the West Region tourney title. They got the top seed and won the first game of the Quarterfinals series, but dropped back to back games to Knoxville Catholic to end the season 17-22. Heading into this year, they’ll have a plethora of high level, upperclassmen pitching and experience. The headliner will be ‘23 LHP Matthew Dallas (Tennessee), who climbed to no.2 in the rankings after a huge summer with Team USA. He’ll have plenty of pro scouts checking in this Spring with a low 90s FB and a sharp biting slider along with his long, lanky frame. Behind Dallas, ‘23 RHP Riley Norman is back after missing the season due to injury to serve as the number two arm. ‘23 RHP Jacob Gazzo (Ole Miss Basketball Commit) and ‘24 RHP/INF Jack Gleason will throw significant innings as well while Gleason will help in the infield. ‘24 C Tripp Ray returns behind the plate and will handle the pitching staff. ‘25 INF Landon Rogers is a young infielder with a good glove to hold down the hot corner. ‘23 INF/RHP Griffin Rose will pair with Rogers on the left side and provide depth on the mound. ‘23 2B Cooper Thompson will round out the infield and ‘24 INF Brennan Bomar will provide depth as well. ‘23 RHP Jase Walker is another depth arm and ‘24 RHP/INF Aidan McCrady is a two-way prospect to keep eyes on. Couple underclassmen to follow are: ‘25 OF Luke McGee, ‘25 OF/RHP Houston Walker, ‘25 RHP/OF Caleb Cowles, ‘25 RHP Christian Rose, and ‘26 LHP Phinn Waters. The West Region will be similar to last year as Christian Brothers and Briarcrest are expected to battle it out at the top. Last year, Brothers captured the regular season and Briarcrest won the tourney, so anything can happen with big postseason aspirations for both.
