The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

Team Outlook:

The Jackets went 12-13 and were eliminated in the district tournament. Recently inducted Hall of Fame coach Johnny Growe returns a blend of experience and youth with hard working/scrappy tendencies in 2023. ‘23 SS/RHP Matt Scates will pair up the middle with ‘23 2B Barkley Biggs and ‘24 SS/RHP Talon Reddick to provide a solid veteran core on the infield. Reddick and Scates will also serve as the top two arms for the Jackets in district play. ‘24 3B/RHP Conor Wilson expects to man the hot corner and throw significant innings on the mound. ‘23 OF Cole Allen and ‘23 OF John Featherston return for their final season to roam the outfield. The outfield group will have several sophomores to contribute with ‘25 OF Eli St. Romain, ‘24 OF Alex Garcia, and ‘24 OF Landon Clark. The x-factor could be ‘26 C/RHP Easton Sullivan who will handle catching duties and play a key role on the mound as well. ‘26 1B Caden Sparkman is another freshman to keep an eye on this Spring. They lack depth positionally, but they’re hopefully to be in contention with Bradford (State Final Four last year) and Dresden (Region Semifinals).
