The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Yellow Jackets put together a very solid season last year as they went 22-12, but failed to advance out of the district. They graduated the entire infield and they will have a fairly young group this season. ‘23 OF Bo Baker will be a veteran presence and a key bat in the lineup after hitting five home runs last year. ‘24 OF Ben McCracken is another upperclassman they’ll lean on and hit 10 doubles last year. ‘25 LHP Peyton Witter will be the ace after tossing a fair amount of innings last year as a freshman. ‘25 SS/RHP Blake Herrell will anchor the new infield and serve as the number two arm. ‘25 RHP James Lane will throw significant innings behind Witter and Herrell, which gives them a very solid core of young arms to build upon. Kingston will be a youthful team and expect to take some lumps as they find their footing. Loudon will be the favorites in the district after making a state appearance last Spring, but Kingston will be in the mix with Sweetwater for the second region spot.
