The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Bulldogs turned in a great season last year as they captured the district 12 championship. They proceeded to sweep through the region, but lost to White House Heritage in sub-state at home to end the year 22-13. This year, they’ll return plenty of pitching depth and expect to be sound defensively while they’ll have to replace some power bats in the lineup. ‘23 RHP/UTL Carter Milligan returns and was lights out on the mound and expects to do the same this season after garnering district tourney MVP honors. ‘23 RHP Adam Wright will pair as the number two arm and had some bright spot moments last year. ‘23 C Taylor Hill is a consistent veteran bat and will be behind the plate this Spring. ‘23 1B/RHP John Carter is back from injury and will provide some pop in the order and depth on the mound. ‘23 INF/RHP Easton Yates played all over last Spring, but will settle in at 2B and throw significant innings. ‘24 CINF/RHP Rye Maxwell will play a big role in the middle of the lineup after getting time last Spring. ‘23 OF Grayson Stuckey played well down the stretch and figures to slot into a corner spot. ‘24 SS/RHP Cary Allen Burke will pair with Yates up the middle after getting some time last year. ‘24 UTL/RHP Gabe Scott and ‘24 OF/LHP Barton James will provide some speed to the roster and depth on the mound. Bulldogs will have some younger guys contribute some as well including, ‘24 OF Braidan Gonzalez, ‘25 RHP/C Karsen Yates, and ‘25 LHP/OF Colin Milligan. Keep an eye out for ‘26 C/RHPJP Scott, ‘26 RHP James Carter, and ‘26 MINF/RHP Will Johnson, who may see some varsity time, but expect to play a larger role down the road. The Bulldogs expect to be the favorites again this season, but it should be a fairly deep league with Westview, Union City, Huntingdon, and Gibson County. This group has postseason experience and aspirations of playing in late May this season.
