The 2023 high school baseball season is quickly approaching and as usual, excitement abounds throughout the state. Players and coaches have been working in preparation for the upcoming season and, as is the case each year, there are some very talented players and teams across Tennessee.

Teams across the state have goals and aspirations to finish their seasons in Murfreesboro at The Spring Fling as they compete for a state championship, but there is plenty of work to be done before that becomes reality. We hope to familiarize our readers with many of the teams across the state as we preview individual teams across Tennessee. We will take you right up to first pitch this season with these team previews and by continuing other pieces of content covering the Volunteer State.

Please keep checking back throughout the season as we will be your one-stop shop for everything related to high school baseball across the state. Each week we will be releasing our players of the week, updating the Top 10 in each TSSAA classification as well as a Power 25.

*Please note that all information is based on team preview questionnaires that were sent out and returned by the participating high school coaches.

Team Outlook:

The Cardinals made a trip to the state tournament in 2021 and put together a solid campaign last season. They got off to a slow start, but started to play better ball down the stretch. Unfortunately they finished third in the district tourney, failing to advance to finish the season 17-16. This season, they’ll return a very upperclassmen heavy roster with postseason experience and some depth. The infield will be filled with three year starters all around the diamond. ‘23 SS/RHP Andrew Davis (NE Miss CC) will be the ace on the mound and pair with ‘23 2B Ben Lavelle up the middle. ‘23 1B Luke Perkins is a middle of the order bat and ‘23 INF/UTL Bennett Stutts will start at 3B with the ability to play all the infield positions. ‘23 RHP Sean Brubaker will serve as the no.2 arm behind Davis after throwing significant innings last Spring. ‘24 LHP/OF MJ Parimore and ‘23 LHP John Richardson are pair of southpaws, who have had success, that they’ll rely on as well. ‘24 OF/UTL Case Maxwell figures to slot in the outfield with Parimore after serving a utility role in 2022. ‘25 OF Kaiden Ingram stepped in as a freshmen and could potentially be a top of the order bat this year. ‘24 OF Brodie Billings missed last year due to injury but is another play that can step up in the outfield. ‘24 OF/RHP Kase Washam and ‘25 INF/RHP Brady Ray put together strong showings in JV last year and will look to contribute at the varsity level this Spring. The Cardinals will have to battle it out with two state tourney clubs in their district, Covington and Munford. All three are returning strong rosters, so it will be a dog fight for the two region spots as the ones who advance will have a great opportunity to make a deep postseason push.
