Fort Worth Preseason ID: Position Player Analysis

On Tuesday, January 3rd, the PBR Texas Staff traveled to Weatherford College to host the Fort Worth Preseason ID. The event featured prospects of all HS classes from around the state and provided our staff an ample look at every player in attendance.

We continue the analysis from the event with a look at all of the position players. We broke down the top-five position players on the day followed by the rest of the position players in attendance. 

Read on below for a look at all of the writeups and prospects from the day.

TOP POSITION PLAYERS

1. Dylan Cheek, Rockwall, 2026
Positional Profile: SS/OF Cheek is a P5 player that continues to get better. You can tell he attacked the off-season with a purpose. A top 10 freshman in the state.
Body: 5-11, 160-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up with good rhythm Gets on plane with the ball early, slight loft in the swing. Delivers consitent hard contact
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 87.5 MPH. 362' max distance. Hit 4 balls out during BP, shows good pull side power and the ability to drive the ball to RC with authority.
Arm: RH. INF-91 mph.Arm has taken a big jump, plays anywhere on the field.
Defense: Has the footwork and hands to stay up the middle. Footspeed will be the determining factor if he stays at short.
Run: 7.10 runner in the 60. Avg. Runner who got faster during off-season

2. Urim Ibrahimi, Mansfield Legacy, 2023
Positional Profile: 3B/SS Ibrahimi is an athletic 2 way player that shows high upside in the field and on the mound
Body: 6-1, 190-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up, stays tall. Creates good seperation, with good bat speed through zone.
Slight loft in swing.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 77.3 MPH. 316' max distance. quick hands work through the zone with a little lift, sometimes creating top spin. Hard contact.
Arm: RH. INF-87 mph.Good arm, can stick on left side of Inf
Defense: feet, hands and arm are all good enough to stay at SS/3B.
Run: 6.98 runner in the 60.

3. Ethan Ho, Rock Hill, 2024
Positional Profile: C/3B Ho does a lot of things well. Could play OF or C at next level and should grow into at least avg. power
Body: 6-1, 190-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 60/40 set up with a hanging leg load trigger really rotates and has a flat barrel through the zone. Lot of torque in his swing.
Power: 93 max exit velocity, averaged 77.3 MPH. 268' max distance. hits the ball hard but generates a lot of top spin from steep bat path, killing carry.
Arm: RH. C-78 mph. OF-90 mph. strong arm from OF. Gets ball out fast behind dish with good velo.
Defense: 1.93-2.01 pop times. below average reciever behind dish, waits for ball to get to him in OF instead of charging.
Run: 6.93 runner in the 60.

4. Rock Duer, Marcus, 2025
Positional Profile: SS/OF Duer is a talented switch hitter who generates some power from both sides with quick hands.Shows good footwork and arm from both the outfield and infield.
Body: 5-8, 160-pounds.
Hits: SH. 50/50 set up with some rythym LHH and RHH swing mirror each other well. Has good bat speed with some loft in his swing.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 73.2 MPH. 330' max distance. has good rythym and works up through the ball to drive it with backspin.
Arm: RH. INF-81 mph.OF-83 mph. long arm action in OF ball comes out clean with average velo. Short arm action from low slot in IF. Can get a little to low sometimes
Defense: charges the ball nicely in OF really working through it,INF arm action will likely make him a 2B in future.
Run: 7.06 runner in the 60.

5. Krue Lowe, Frisco Wakeland, 2024
Positional Profile: 1B/OF Lowe is a tall lefty bat who can generate some pop and be an average dfender.
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds.
Hits: LHH. Tall 60/40 set up. Good rhythm throughout the swing. flat barrel early and stays flat through the zone. Hitterish.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 67.8 MPH. 347' max distance. makes consistent hard contact and generates some power.
Arm: LH. INF-71 mph.short arm action delivering accurate throws to second.
Defense: gets off the bag well, okay hands.
Run: 7.12 runner in the 60.

BEST OF THE REST (LISTED ALPHABETICALLY)

Andrew Allen, Timber Creek, 2025
Positional Profile: C/2B Allen has some bat speed and a chance to be a good defensive catcher with some pop.
Body: 5-8, 165-pounds.
Hits: RHH. tall, 50/50 stance barrel stays flat through zone on pitches middle/up, gets steep on low pitch
Power: 89 max exit velocity, averaged 81.9 MPH. 325' max distance. Drove the ball consitently to all fields with consistent hard contact
Arm: RH. C-75 mph. INF-84 mph.Good arm with quality carry on his throws
Defense: 1.94-2.14 pop times. gets the ball out quick with decent velo behind the dish, clean footwork and delivery in INF.
Run: 7.46 runner in the 60.

Jackson Arnett, Granbury, 2025
Positional Profile: C/1B
Body: 5-10, 155-pounds. Athletic and lean
Hits: RHH. Balanced, upright stance Works down through contact with uphill extension and a two-handed finish
Power: 65 max exit velocity, averaged 60.5 MPH. 198' max distance.
Arm: RH. C-73 mph. Short arm action
Defense: 2.25-2.33 pop times. Starts higher in his crouch, average receiver with clean transfer on throw downs to the bag.
Run: 8.38 runner in the 60.

Christian Barley, The Oakridge School, 2024
Positional Profile: SS/OF Barley does everything well, just needs to continue to get stronger and everything will tick up.
Body: 5-10, 140-pounds.
Hits: LHH. 50/50 set up, rocks back for load has some loft in his swing, looking to elevate.
Power: 83 max exit velocity, averaged 64 MPH. 284' max distance. As he continues to get on plane earlier, it will free him up to drive the ball with more authority
Arm: RH. INF-75 mph.average arm, varying slots.
Defense: good feet and hands, arm slot inconsistent.
Run: 7.16 runner in the 60.

Ashton Creighton, Little Elm, 2024
Positional Profile: RHP/OF Creighton is a tall OF with more projection. Needs to continue to get stronger and his numbers will continue to tick up.
Body: 6-4, 165-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 60/40 set up, stays on back foot Creates good seperation with hands, swing has loft. Lower half could use more rotation.
Power: 82 max exit velocity, averaged 62.9 MPH. 308' max distance. works up through the ball with some leverage creating back spin.
Arm: RH. OF-84 mph. Clean Arm Action with good carry
Defense: charges through ball cautiously.
Run: 7.23 runner in the 60.

Ben Hornyak, Southlake Carroll, 2024
Positional Profile: C/3B Hornyak is a quality backstop who does a lot of things well. As he continues to get stronger and faster his game will really shine
Body: 6-0, 185-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up, minimal load really flat through the zone, keeps hands high
Power: 88 max exit velocity, averaged 74.4 MPH. 344' max distance. really tall simple swing with not a lot going on in the load or pre swing
Arm: RH. C-73 mph. INF-72 mph.Short AA from both positions. Velos will tick up once lower half and upper half sync
Defense: 2.01-2.13 pop times. feet and hands are going to keep him on the corner INF
Run: 7.25 runner in the 60.

Brayden Lara, Weatherford, 2026
Positional Profile: SS/2B Lara is an exciting freshman to watch who is very athletic and could develop into a 4 tool player as he grows/fills out.
Body: 5-9, 145-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up with heel pick up for load. Rotational swing, lifts front heel up and puts back down for his timing mechanism.
Power: 84 max exit velocity, averaged 67 MPH. 291' max distance. good hands and bat path, exit velo and distance will come as he grows/ fills out.
Arm: RH. INF-70 mph.clean delivery with average arm.
Defense: feet and hands are going to keep him up the middle.

Jackson Morris, Marcus, 2025
Positional Profile: C/3B Morris is a taller catcher with good feel for the barell. Still growing into his body, best days are ahead of him
Body: 6-0, 190-pounds.
Hits: RHH. Wide 50/50 set up, leans on front foot with load.
Power: 91 max exit velocity, averaged 80.8 MPH. 319' max distance. drops hands and head to work up through ball but gets consistent barrels.
Arm: RH. C-72 mph. All arm on his throwdowns. As he incorporates his lower half more, that will tick up
Defense: 2.12-2.22 pop times. okay receiver.
Run: 7.49 runner in the 60

Terrance Randall, Rowlett, 2023
Positional Profile: SS/OF Randall is a twitchy athlete, with a lot of tools. As he finds his approach at the plate, he could really take off
Body: 5-9, 150-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up with front foot slightly open. Electric bat speed. Swings with slight loft in the swing.
Power: 79 max exit velocity, averaged 76.6 MPH. 19' max distance. Makes contact with slight lift, meets ball out front.
Arm: RH. quick arm, short action.
Defense: hands and feet both good enough to stay in middle of field.
Run: 6.88 runner in the 60.

Dylan Robinson, Birdville, 2023
Positional Profile: 1B/OF Robinson is a physical player, with good athleticism for his size. He has above avg. metrics at the plate, and could become a force in the middle of the lineup
Body: 6-5, 225-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up, uses heel up/down for load. Hands start high and work down on ball with leverage.
Power: 98 max exit velocity, averaged 80.3 MPH. 368' max distance. Gets on plane and creates leverage generating hard contact and some power to pull side.
Arm: RH. INF-75 mph.OF-80 mph. short arm action from both positions.
Defense: works through the ball well and gets behind all his throws.
Run: 7.14 runner in the 60.

Diego Sanchez, Mansfield Legacy, 2023
Positional Profile: C/OF Sanchez is an athletic catcher who runs well and has good feet, generating some hard contact at the plate.
Body: 6-0, 195-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 70/30 set up, sits back on his backleg. likes to work up through the ball with some lift after getting on plane.
Power: 94 max exit velocity, averaged 78.4 MPH. 321' max distance. Working up through the ball creates some topspin, but does generate some hard contact.
Arm: RH. C-78 mph. accurate throws to the bag.
Defense: 2.00-2.16 pop times. transfers weight well through the throw, avg receiver.
Run: 7.01 runner in the 60.

Sean Smith, McKinney, 2024
Positional Profile: OF/2B Smith is a smaller player with really good bat path and swing plane. Good athlete
Body: 5-9, 155-pounds.
Hits: RHH. 50/50 set up, rocks into back foot with load. Raises up and then squats back into his legs before he starts. Swings with loft
Power: 83 max exit velocity, averaged 74.9 MPH. 274' max distance. gets on plane early and works up through the ball, creating some top spin .
Arm: RH. OF-74 mph. long arm action, work on using lower half more on throws from OF
Defense: celan footwork and throw mechanics.
Run: 7.07 runner in the 60.
