PBR Texas 2022 Winter Showcase Calendar: Release

By: Diego Solares
Associate Scout, Staff Writer

On Nov. 9, Prep Baseball Report unveiled its national Preseason ID showcase schedule, including Texas’ five events. It all starts on Jan. 8th in Austin, with events spanning the state, leading to the start of the high school season.

If you’re curious to learn more about the Prep Baseball Report’s showcase structure, here’s an idea of what you can expect while attending and following a PBR showcase.

WHAT IS A PRESEASON ID EVENT?

The Preseason ID series is unique in several ways. It serves as an identifier heading into the spring high school season, giving our scouts as well as college recruiters, a list of prospects to follow as they plan their spring coverage. We also tend to see prospects’ best performances in the Preseason, as most athletes are fresh and coming off of strict and targeted off-season training programs that have resulted in big gains, primed for updating their PBR profile. All of which lends the perfect opportunity to secure invitations to some of the summer's biggest invite-only events such as the Top Prospect Games, PBR Future Games, and more.

Our staff strategically hosts Preseason I.D. events throughout the state in search of players who have taken advantage of the offseason, identifying new prospects to add to our follow lists or players our staff is already familiar with who are on the rise.

All player information including tech metrics, stats, videos, scouting reports and more will be hosted to the Prep Baseball Report website, bolstering the player profile, which is subscribed to by more than 800 colleges across the country.

AUSTIN PRESEASON ID

Kicking off the 2022 Texas showcase calendar a few days after the new year is a brand new event - the Austin Preseason ID. Our scouting staff will travel to the state’s capital on January 8th to run this event, setting ourselves up nicely with an ample opportunity to identify prospects from this area early on in the season. We’ve made a concerted effort to target all areas of the state throughout next year and it starts early on with Austin.

SAN ANTONIO PRESEASON ID

We’re back at Cornerstone Christian on January 16th to run the San Antonio Preseason ID yet again, an event that started our 2021 calendar and provides us an early opportunity to evaluate talent from this area of the state. Last year’s roster, albeit a smaller one, featured formidable talent throughout, including INF Easton Dowell (Gregory-Portland, 2022; Texas Tech) and INF Tyler Garritano (Boerne, 2023; Baylor). It also provided our staff an early look at INF Juan Diego Amescua (Central Catholic, 2025), who helped lead Team Texas to a near championship at the PBR Junior Future Games.

FORT WORTH PRESEASON ID

Our staff will head to Weatherford College on January 17th for the first time to run the inaugural Fort Worth Preseason ID as we continue to uphold our commitment to covering all areas of the state.

HOUSTON PRESEASON ID

Another recurring event from last year’s calendar, the Houston Preseason I.D. is scheduled for January 22nd at Houston Baptist University, home of the Huskies. This was the most attended event on our 2021 winter calendar and our staff is eager to check in on one of the Lone Star state’s most populous areas. SS/RHP Caleb Castle (Clearlake, 2022; Northwestern State), 1B Reese Beheler (George Ranch, 2022; Arizona State) and LHP Ethan Calder (Lake Travis, 2022; Baylor) were amongst the top standouts on a roster that’s still full of uncommitted 2023 and 2024 graduates.

DALLAS PRESEASON ID

We’ll conclude our January calendar and the Preseason ID circuit at John Paul II High School on January 23rd with the Dallas Preseason ID. This is an area of the state we’ve become fully entrenched in, running multiple preseason events in Plano over the years, and we’re certainly excited to see the talent this year’s roster has in store.
