As we prepare for the inaugural Commonwealth Classic tournament, our staff would like to highlight what to expect from top ranked #1 Freedom (South Riding) Eagles in this tournament, as well as some of their potential top performers.
Tournament Schedule: April 1st at 1:00 pm vs #23 Miller School (Site: Shepherd Stadium)
April 1st at 7:00 pm vs TBD (Site: TBD), April 3rd (Opponent, Site, & Time TBD)
The Freedom (South Riding) Eagles are the current #1 team in the VA/DC Power 25. The Eagles are coming off of a VHSL 6A State Championship and are primed for another big year in 2023. Mark Wrighte's team returns three premium arms in Ryan Marohn (NC State), Mason Butash (Penn State), and Luke Proehl (Virginia Tech). To go along with the horses on the mound they have some really solid offensive pieces including 2022 Cedar Run District Player of the Year, Mason Butash. On the front end of that lineup brings a pesky leadoff man in Christian Carver (George Mason). Carver always seems to show up in the big moment versus the biggest arms. Behind Carver there is WVU commit, Griffin Burkholder. Burkholder is a physical athlete with a premium run tool and versatile at the plate. The lineup does not let up and there are some exciting uncommitted players that have been strong for the Eagles early this year.
