VA/DC Coverage

Welcome to Looking Ahead. In this weekly story, we will highlight the top games on the schedule each night.

GAMES OF THE WEEK

No. 8 Battlefield vs. No. 3 Freedom (South Riding), Monday, May 15
The Bobcats and Eagles finished the season tied for first in the Cedar Run District, having split their head to head matchups and gone unbeaten against the rest of the league. Since the Cedar Run awards its District title and Region 1 seed to the regular season champ, the two must meet in a neutral site tiebreaker game. This game will be played at Osbourn and both games between the two teams were incredibly tight, expect this to be no different and then for their to be a possible rematch at the end of the week in the District Tournament.

VISAA State Tournament
This week marks VISAA State Tournament after brackets were announced on Saturday evening. Cape Henry is the top seed in a wide-open Division I field. Highland took the top seed in Division II in a bracket that is set-up to create a rematch of last year's Championship game between the Hawks and Greenbrier, but do keep an eye out for a couple of dark horses who could spoil things for those two. Finally, Walsingham is the top seed and runaway favorite in Division III. As currently scheduled, the quarterfinals will be played on Tuesday night at the better seeds, with the semifinals being Thursday evening and all day Friday at Shepard Stadium. That will set-up Championship Saturday at Shepherd, with all three title games taking place.

DCSAA Tournament
Not to be excluded, DC will be hosting their Championship Tournament this week as well. As of this story publishing, we have not seen a released bracket, but traditionally it is an eight team field. Teams expected to be in the field this year include Gonzaga, Maret, St. Alban's, and Jackson-Reed (Wilson). The Championship game is slated for Sunday, May 22 at Nat's Academy.

NOVA District Championship Games, Friday, May 20
Friday night should feature a slew of District Tournament Championship games in Northern Virginia. Currently scheduled to play that night are the Patriot, National, Concorde, Liberty, Cardinal, and Cedar Run Districts, all of which have the potential to feature some very good matchups ahead of next week's Region tournaments.
