PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week: LHP/OF Logan Dunn

For as long as we’ve been familiar with the state’s 2024 class, LHP/OF Logan Dunn (Wautoma) has been one of the names towards the top of our board. Dunn is currently the state’s eighth ranked prospect and also slots right inside the top-500 prospects in the country, sitting at No. 460 overall.

Dunn’s two-way capabilities are what separate him from his peers, as he’s a legitimate standout on both sides of the ball. He’s shown just that all spring long, playing an enormous role for a Wautoma Hornets squad that’s currently 16-2 and tied for first place in the South Central conference standings. Perhaps his most impressive string of performances thus far came across four games last week, where Dunn propelled the Hornets to four wins and himself to our ‘Player of the Week’ honors.

Wautoma won their first game last week rather handedly, defeating Berlin 17-7 and pounding out 15 hits as a team. Dunn paced them at the plate, pouring out four hits and scoring four times as well. He racked up three singles and clobbered a three-run shot in his final at-bat, bringing five runs home in total.

Dunn toed the rubber against Westfield on Tuesday and helped the Hornets avenge an early season loss with a masterful performance. He fell one out short of going the distance, punching out 14 batters and scattering two hits across 6 ⅔ innings. Dunn picked up two hits at the plate as well, driving in a run and walking once.

Perhaps his most dominant day last week was Thursday - a game the Hornets defeated Nekoosa 8-1. Dunn picked up three hits, including two doubles and a home run, and four runs scored via his bat, including himself crossing home plate twice. Dunn also drew a walk and swiped a bag, putting his all-around skill set on full display. In the week’s finale, a 16-2 win over Lourdes, Dunn casually tripled twice and drove in five runs.

In total, Wautoma’s star sophomore finished last week 11-for-15 at the plate with two home runs, two doubles, two triples, and 13 RBIs. He scored nine times on his own and swiped three bags, all while punching out 14 batters in a near complete game effort on the mound. Dunn’s having an incredible season for Wautoma and he’s certainly on pace to earn All-State honorees, if not ‘Player of the Year’ consideration. Last week’s showing helped raise his batting average to .500 on the season and it lowered his ERA to .913.

We had the opportunity to see Dunn this winter at the Madison Preseason ID, where he displayed his multifaceted skill-set and emerged a major winner amongst a talented group of players. A quick nugget on him from that event, written by our scouting staff:

Logan Dunn LHP / OF / Wautoma, WI / 2024

“...Beginning his day with a 7.15 in the 60-yard dash, he rolled it into an impressive round of batting practice. While swinging with very advanced bat speed for his age (80 mph), after a controlled coiling leg kick, he generates violence to impact with exits up to 94.6 mph, producing a sweet spot rate of 80 percent. Dunn drove low line-drives from the middle of the field to the pull side repeatedly. Defensively, Dunn showed some of the better outfield actions of the event, moving easily through the baseball with confidence and athleticism. With a premium arm (90 mph) he has the potential to profile in all three outfield spots at the next level. On the mound, the southpaw works at an uptempo pace, moving into a slight drop/drive lower-half while working in-line to home into a closed landing foot. His arm is long out of the glove into a ¾ slot, working quick to release and clean throughout his path. Dunn’s fastball sat comfortably at 86-87 mph, playing through the zone with arm-side life. His curveball looks to be well above-average, playing off a sharp 1/7 plane with depth at 67-69 mph and averaging 2,404 rpm. The left-hander’s changeup comes out of a similar window to his fastball, mirroring arm-speed and flashing fading action to his arm-side, kept down at 77-80 mph.”

For his efforts, Mass has been named the PBR Wisconsin Player of the Week, for the sixth week of WIAA action, ranging from Monday, May 9 to Sunday, May 15. We're thankful for the POTW submissions we received from the coaches across the state. The players who garnered POTW consideration will earn a place within Friday's Diamond Notes story, so be on the lookout for that by the end of this week.
