Southern Wisconsin Open: Statistical Analysis

By Diego Solares
Staff Writer, Associate Scout

On Oct. 16, the PBR Wisconsin hosted its last open showcase of 2021: the Southern Wisconsin Open. Perennially, this showcase helps introduce our staff to new need-to-know players in the state that we’d not yet seen before, as well as provided us with updated looks at players who’ve earned our attention in the past.

Today, our scouting staff will begin to roll out all our prototypical post-event content pieces, starting with this statistical analysis. Below we’ll highlight players that put up numbers from a traditional standpoint, such as leaders in the 60-yard dash, max throwing velocities, and other data gathered from the day.

We’ll also roll out more analysis as the week rolls on, like a takeaways piece from the day and deeper data dives with the statistics collected from our technological partners at TrackMan and Blast Motion.

For now, take a look at which players put out noteworthy statistical outputs.

STAT STORY

+ The day’s top statistical performer was RHP/OF Wyatt Rushing (Elkhorn Area, 2024), who made an emphatic statement throughout the event. The 6-foot, 160-pound right-hander ran a 6.92 in the 60-yard dash, led all throws from the outfield with a 92 mph high, and he was up to 90 mph on the mound with his fastball, too.

+ OF/RHP Broden Jackson (Milton) is another 2024 graduate who put up impressive metrics throughout the day. The 6-foot-2, 200-pound broad-shouldered prospect squared a baseball up at 98 mph off the barrel in batting practice and translated that physicality to the field, where he was up to 89 mph from the outfield. Jackson took the mound later and reached back for an 87 mph bullet on his final fastball of his ‘pen.

+ Two 2023 graduates who impressed during their ‘pens from a statistical standpoint: RHP Grant Schultz (Menomonee Falls) and RHP Elijah Niemiec (St. Thomas More). Schultz used the wiry strength attached to his 6-foot-2, 165-pound frame to pump multiple fastballs at 87 mph, while the pure size and strength on Niemiec’s 6-foot-4, 200-pound helped his fastball peak at 85 mph.

+ Committed to Tampa, OF Dylan Bass (Glenbrook North, IL, 2023) filled up the stat sheet in multiple different ways. A proportionally strong, long-limbed athlete, Bass’ 99 mph max exit velocity in BP tied for the day’s best and his average exit speed of 91.51 mph paced the entire group by a few ticks. He also uncorked a 90 mph best to home from the outfield, which was two ticks behind the day’s hardest throw.

+ OF River Lindsey (Muskego, 2023) turned some heads with an impressive statistical performance. The 6-foot, 170-pound junior ran the day’s fastest 60-yard dash, at 6.67 seconds, and showed off some impressive arm strength for his age from the outfield, peaking at 87 mph to home.

+ C Cael Lynch (Franklin) recorded the day’s hardest throw from behind the plate, topping at 81 mph from the chute.
