Wisconsin Unsigned Senior Showcase: Quick Hits

By Andy Sroka & Diego Solares
Wisconsin Staff

On Oct. 23, the PBR Wisconsin staff hosted its final showcase of 2021: the Unsigned Senior Showcase. This showcase provided our staff with the opportunity to see a collection of the area’s under-the-radar, uncommitted players, many of whom made their PBR event debuts at this showcase.

Today, we’ll highlight several standouts and performances from Saturday’s showcase at the MOSH Performance Center in Franklin, Wis. You’ll see more content roll out throughout the week, such as our traditional stats story as well as leaderboards taken from TrackMan and Blast Motion data, as our partners’ state-of-the-art technologies helped our staff identify even more players to know headed into the fall and beyond.

For now, let’s take a look at the senior standouts from Saturday’s event in Franklin.

QUICK HITS

CATCHERS

+ C Ryder Derouin (Wisconsin Lutheran) is a 6-foot-3, 185-pound right-handed-hitting catcher who performed well in-game recently at the PBR Fall Championships at The Rock in late September, which translated into a quality performance Saturday at this showcase. He hits from a tall setup and landed some of the day’s hardest average contact. Derouin reached a max exit speed of 93.6 mph, coming off the barrel at a lower average angle, and his offensive upside complements his defensive skill set. For a taller backstop, Derouin delivers the ball quickly and accurately to second base, popping in the 2.05-2.20 range with a top velocity of 78 mph to second.

+ C/RHP Hunter Buschke (Notre Dame Academy) brings with him some next-level traits to the right-handed batter’s box, including above-average hand speed marks. He has a loose, quick swing, and he used it to reach a 90 mph max exit speed on Saturday. Buschke also has potential from the mound, where he sat 80-82 mph from a high slot

OUTFIELDERS

+ OF Calvin Keesler (Xavier) stands out physically, and immediately, with an athletic and strong 6-foot-3, 180-pound build. His 6.75 time in the 60-yard dash is, obviously, a noteworthy measurement of his athleticism and it underscores the upside he brings to the ballpark. A right-handed hitter, Keesler’s loose levers combine to create bat and hand speed, translating into a quality batted-ball profile that peppered the middle of the field consistently. He reached a max exit speed over 94 mph, averaging upper-80s exits, and crushed one ball an estimated 346 feet. The Xavier senior has coveted traits that are hard to find this late in the recruiting game, which should earn him attention headed into the offseason.

+ OF Logan Des Lauries (Oconomowoc) is a lean 6-foot, 175-pound athlete with excellent foot speed and athleticism that is, simply, his best skill on the diamond. He bursted out to a 6.60 time in the 60-yard dash, looking like he needed only half the strides it took his peers from beginning to end. Offensively, Des Lauries has a direct, flat right-handed swing that showed effective barrel accuracy on Saturday that looked like it could produce the kind of spray contact that will make use of his excellent speed, speed that allowed him to roam around the outfield smoothly, too.

INFIELDERS

+ INF/RHP Tanner Johnson (Indian Trail) is a physical 6-foot-2, 195-pound two-way player who has been a reliable piece for his high school program through his time at IT. Saturday, Johnson showed power/speed traits as a 7.19 runner with upside bat strength from the right side. He backspins baseballs well, favoring his pull-side gap, while creating hand speed and a max exit speed of 92.8 mph. On the bump, he attacked the zone with his 80 mph fastball, getting far down the mound at release, with above-average spin. Johnson utilizes a healthy mix of curve, slider, change, and even a knuckle that he limits the spin on effectively. He’s a competitive, well-rounded player with a multitude of routes to bring back next-level value.

+ 1B Keegan Norton (Greendale) turned in a quality junior campaign for Greendale this spring - a team that was perennially ranked inside our top-25 on a week-to-week basis. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound left-handed hitter put together one of the day’s best BP rounds, showcasing easy hand and bat speed while attacking the pull-side gap with elevated contact throughout.

+ 1B Michael Zordani (Arrowhead) continues to show well in front of our staff, after putting together another quality showing at the MOSH. The 6-foot-6 first baseman is athletic and moves well for his size, putting together a clean showing during his round of infield defense. Offensively, Zordani offers power upside from the right-handed batter’s box and led this entire event in max exit velocity with a 95.4 mph high.

PITCHERS

+ LHP Hunter Enloe (Pecatonica) popped as a follow uncommitted name in the state’s senior class after a strong, polished showing at the MOSH on Saturday. A highly projectable 6-foot-2, 170-pound southpaw, Enloe peppered the strike zone with a high-70s fastball, topping at 81 mph from a loose, clean arm slot while averaging nearly eight feet of extension, per TrackMan. As he continues to physically mature and add weight to his frame, Enloe’s velocity should certainly tick upward as there certainly appears to be more left in the tank. He landed both a curveball and changeup for strikes, completing a quality three-pitch mix and projecting as a starter at the next level.

+ Another clean, upside arm that showed well at this event was RHP Logan Neuroth (Verona Area). A lanky, high-waisted 6-foot-2, 160-pound athlete, Neuroth worked around the zone with four pitches, including two different breaking balls and a low-spin changeup. He’s still physically filling out his levers and starting to tap into his ceiling on the hill.
