A fastball with rise has a high percentage of backspin. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher fly ball percentage. Rise+ of 100 is MLB average
Austin Stutz: SS/RHP, (2024) Upper Arlington, OH. 5-foot-7, 150-pound. Solid at the plate, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 78 mph. Started in an athletic stance with a controlled load, then used a short stride. Had a simple swing plane and average bat speed. He found some barrels through his rounds. Line drive approach. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 72 mph; has a fluid natural exchange, athletic feet, and consistent hands. Solid on the mound, has a high ¾ arm angle with an compact arm action. Feel type pitcher who shows some effort. Showed an athletic balance point. Curveball (66-68 mph), changeup (71-74 mph).Produced a fastball that came in at 75-77 mph.
6/26/19
Swing Mechanics: Right-handed hitter that starts in an upright stance. Vertical barrel launch with a simple lower half. Hit: Whippy stroke that shows more speed than strength presently. Finds plane well, giving him a large margin for error and allows him to use the entire field. Sprayed it well in BP. Power: Line drive pop. Much more to come as he add strength with maturity. Offensive Projection: Table Setter. Field: In the outfield he plays with smooth actions and quality ball skills. Looks to be a solid defender out there. Also worked out in the infield where he plays under control throughout sequence. Not a flashy defender but looks to be sure-handed. Throw: Compact arm action that comes through a near ¾ slot with present accuracy and developing strength.
Body Type: 5-foot-4, 120-pounds.
Mechanical/Delivery Notes: Works exclusively from the stretch. Drop/drive type who creates solid energy/direction down the hill. Compact arm action through a high-3/4 slot. More speed than strength to the arm presently.
Fastball: 64-66 mph. Pitch has a bit of run/dive to it, working both sides of the plate.
Curveball: 53-55 mph. 11/5 bender that has gradual action. Showed confident in the pitch he used both to get ahead and put hitters away.
Pitchability: Strike thrower.
