A fastball with hop has a flat approach angle and visually jumps through the zone. When thrown up in the zone, it is more likely to generate a higher swing and miss average. Hop+ of 100 is MLB average.

Jacob King: RHP/OF, (2024) Thomas Worthington, OH. 6-foot-1, 160-pound. In the box, the right-handed hitter had an exit velocity of 84 mph. (67.8 mph bat speed average). (21.9 mph hand speed average). Began in a balanced stance with a compact load, then used a toe tap stride. Bat speed is quick, has a simple flat swing plane and high finish. Solid while in the infield, made throws up to 67 mph; has a natural exchange, firm hands, and consistent feet. Solid in the outfield, he showed the ability to make throws to the bases at 76 mph; had a clean exchange, consistent footwork, and firm hands. Fields the ball out front, movements laterally were athletic. Used a loose arm action with a high ¾ slot. Recorded a 60 time of 7.73 at the event. On the mound, had a consistent arm action and a high ¾ arm angle with consistent arm speed. Drop-and-drive type pitcher and shows easy effort. Sat with his fastball at 77-80 mph. Had slight running action. (Max spin 1888; Avg 1806). His 11/5 curveball (62-65) has slurvey action. (Max spin 1840; Avg 1815).

Scouting Notes: Long, levered projectable frame. There's a ton of room to add quality strength. Works from the stretch with an efficient lower half, using drop/drive movement CB sequence to create energy. Long back arm action prior to traveling through a high-3/4 slot. Expect more velocity with maturity. Relatively easy delivery. Fastball: True through the zone, showed the ability to move the pitch around the zone. Breaking Ball: Breaking ball has tight, 12/6 action. Showed quality break when he stayed on top of it. Changeup: Maintains arm speed, good sell on the offering that had some cut/dive. Hit: Upright setup from the right side. Uses a leg kick timing trigger during back load to hands. Loose, whippy stroke through the zone. Ball jumps when squared showing fast hands and wiry strength. Just like the mound expect much more juice as he fills out that frame. Top exit velocity of 76mph. Power: Flashed gap abilities. Offensive Projection: Multiple roles. Field: Good athlete in the outfield with an athletic, uptempo sequence. Plays through with confidence and ball skills above average for class. Adding to defensive versatility he also showed a playable skill set behind the dish. Still polishing skill set back there but has all the tools to work with/develop into a solid defender back there. Throw: Arm action plays out there and he has jump out of the hand. On target deliveries. Defensive Projection: Multiple spots.
