East TN Fall Prospect Games: Team Navy Position Players

The East Tennessee Fall Prospect Games event took place on Sunday, October 25 and afforded players from around the state the opportunity to showcase their abilities in a combination showcase/game play event. There were many solid performances turned in, including some by players attending their first PBR event who opened some eyes. The following is a look at the Team Navy position players who participated in the event. This is position analysis only. Those position players who also pitched at the event will have their pitching performance featured in a subsequent article.

Middle Infielders

Michael Robinson, 2017, Elizabethton, SS
The 6 foot 3, 170-pound prospect posted a 7.20 60 time and had a 79 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively, Robinson shows good arm strength, accuracy on throws, soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, fields his position athletically and shows the ability to throw on the move from multiple arm angles. Offensively Robinson showed better bat speed from the right side than indicated by his 76 mph exit velocity off the tee. Robinson hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, uses his lower half, has average overall balance, aggressive approach at the plate, level path with a pull approach. Robinson had a good round of batting practice where he showed flashes of power. He went 0 for 4 during game play.

Ethan Tressler, 2017, Davidson Academy, 2B
The 5 foot 11, 175-pound prospect posted an improved 7.49 60 time and had a 79 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively, Tressler shows short arm action, some accuracy on throws, above average arm strength, playable hands. Could make the move to third base at the next level. Offensively, Tressler has average bat speed from the right side and had a 75 mph exit velocity off the tee. Tressler hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, makes good use of his lower half, has average overall balance, has an aggressive approach, level path, is a line drive type hitter with gap to gap power potential at times. He went 1 for 4 during game play.

Skylar Stalcup, 2018, Powell, SS
The 5 foot 11, 160-pound prospect posted an 8.22 60 time and had a 73 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively, Stalcup shows short arm action, accuracy on throws, average arm strength, average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, natural instincts and fields his position athletically. Stalcup has roomto be more aggressive and work on staying down through the ball. Offensively, Stalcup has average bat speed from the right side and had a 75 mph exit velocity off the tee. Stalcup hits from a balanced setup with a slight leg kick involved, gets some use of his lower half, shows good overall balance, short path, fluid rhythm, and is a line drive type hitter but likes to take the ball to opposite field as well. He went 1 for 3 during game play.

Cole Rheinecker, 2019, Knoxville Central, 2B
The 5 foot 6, 130-pound prospect posted a 7.76 60 time and had a 71 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively, Rheinecker shows short arm action, accuracy on throws, average arm strength, average hands, fluid footwork, quick exchange, plays through the ball, and has natural instincts. Rheinecker made some impressive plays defensively during game play. Offensively, Rheinecker shows average bat speed for his age from the right side and had a 63 mph exit velocity off the tee. He hits from an open setup, has a short stride, gets some use out of his lower half, shows good overall balance, good approach, level path and is a line drive type hitter. Rheinecker went 1 for 4 during game play. Rheinecker will continue to his game evolve with added growth and physical strength.

Corner Infielders

Alex Kerns, 2018, McCallie, 1B
The 6 foot 1, 160-pound prospect posted a 7.57 60 time and had a 77 mph position velocity across the infield.  Defensively Kerns shows long arm action, accuracy on throws, above average arm strength, average hands with decent footwork around the bag. Offensively Kerns shows average bat speed from the right side and had an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Kerns hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, uses his lower half, has average overall balance, has a short path and needs more extension, and is a line drive type hitter. Kerns went 0 for 4 during game play. He should see improvements in his offensive game as he fills out his frame and gets physically stronger.

Westin Reynolds, 2018, Powell, 3B
The 6 foot 4, 180-pound prospect posted an 8.50 60 time and had a 75 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Reynolds has short arm action, some accuracy on throws, average arm strength, average hands, and can improve his lateral quickness. Offensively Reynolds shows average bat speed from the right side and had a 77 mph exit velocity off the tee. Reynolds hits from a balance setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half, shows average overall balance, aggressive approach at the plate, level path and is a line drive type hitter. Reynolds went 0 for 3 during game play.

Tanner Brummett, 2016, Clinton, 3B
The 6 foot 1, 190-pound prospect posted an 8.13 60 time and had a 61 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Brummett shows short arm action, some accuracy on throws, weak arm strength, soft hands, fluid footwork and natural corner instincts. Brummett is better suited at the first base position given the arm strength he showed. Offensively Brummett shows some bat speed and had a 80 mph exit velocity off the tee. Brummett hits from an open setup, has a short stride, uses good lower half torque in swing, has significant pre-pitch hand movement that continues until trigger, has good overall balance, level swing path with a pull approach. Brummett went 2 for 3 during game play.

Trey Oglesby, 2018, Carter, 3B
The 6 foot 3, 220-pound prospect posted a 7.58 60 time and had an 80 mph position velocity across the infield. Defensively Oglesby has short arm action, accuracy on throws, good arm strength, average hands with a slower exchange. Offensively Oglesby shows frame generated bat speed from the right side and had an 84 mph exit velocity off the tee. Oglesby hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, uses his lower half, shows overall average balance, aggressive approach at the plate, creates some natural lift in his swing with flashes of power, good overall strength. Oglesby went 1 for 3 during game play.

Catchers

 Noah Webb, 2019, Sevier County, C
The 5 foot 11,160-pound prospect posted a 7.43 60 time and had a 74 mph position velocity from behind the plate with a 2.03-2.12 pop times. Defensively Webb shows short arm action, has accuracy on throws, good arm strength for young prospect, has room for quicker release, soft hands receiving the ball, and footwork that stays online. Offensively Webb shows above average bat speed from the right side and had an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee. Webb hits from a balanced setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half, shows good overall balance, confident approach at the plate, level path, fluid rhythm, and is a line drive type hitter. Webb went 1 for 4 during game play. Webb will be a class of 2019 prospect to keep an eye on.

Robert Tyson Beach , 2016, Bearden, C/OF
The 6 foot 1, 180-pound prospect posted a 7.08 60 time and had position velocities of 84 mph from the outfield and 75 mph from behind the plate. Defensively from the outfield Beach shows short arm action ,accuracy on throws, good arm strength, average hands, heavy footwork, slow exchange, and hesitant instincts. From behind the plate Beach shows short arm action, accuracy on throws, good arm strength, soft hands receiving the ball, fluid footwork and a clean exchange. Beach had 1.91-1.97 pop times. Offensively Beach shows fast bat speed from the right side and had an 89 mph exit velocity off the tee. Beach hits from a balanced setup with a leg kick involved, has an aggressive approach, level path, fluid rhythm, and likes to pull the ball. Beach  went 2 for 4 during game play with a single and a triple.

Outfielders

Evan Porter, 2017, Maryville, OF
The 6 foot 1, 195-pound prospect shows a good combination of speed and arm strength. Posted a 6.92 60 time and had an 86 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Porter shows short arm action, some accuracy on throws, good arm strength, average hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, and plays through the ball well. Offensively Porter shows fast bat speed from the right side and had an 81 mph exit velocity off the tee (84 at previous event). Porter hits from an open setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half, shows good overall balance, aggressive approach at the plate, level path, fluid rhythm, and shows a pull approach at the plate with flashes of power. Porter went 0 for 4 during game play.

Avery Conkin, 2017, Science Hill, OF/1B
The 6 foot 3, 210-pound prospect showed good speed for size in posting a 6.97 60 time and had an 80 mph position velocity from the outfield and across the infield. Defensively Conkin shows longer arm action, accuracy on throws, good arm strength, soft hands, fluid footwork, clean exchange, plays through the ball and has natural outfield instincts. Shows good athleticism at first base and has the ideal size to play there. Offensively Conkin shows some bat speed from the left side and had a 79 mph exit velocity off the tee. Conkin hits from an open setup, has a short stride, uses his lower half, shows good overall balance, creates some natural lift with swing with the potential to develop into a power hitter at the next level. Conkin went 1 for 3 during game play.

Blake Rauhuff, 2019, Powell, OF
The 5 foot 11, 175-pound prospect posted a 7.30 60 time and had a 78 mph positon velocity from the outfield. Defensively Rauhuff shows long arm action with a high-3/4 release, some accuracy, slightly above average arm strength for age, plays through the ball on the ground with a two-handed approach. Offensively Rauhuff shows average bat speed from the left side and had a 78 mph exit velocity off the tee. Rauhuff hits from an open setup with a leg kick trigger, uses his lower half, has good overall balance, line drive type hitter with a mid to opposite field approach. Rauhuff went 0 for 3 during game play making contact in each at bat. Rauhuff will be a 2019 guy to keep an eye on as he develops.

Camden Dickens, 2018, Notre Dame HS, OF
The 5 foot 10, 130-pound prospect posted a 7.66 60 time and had a 78 mph position velocity from the outfield. Defensively Dickens shows short arm action with an over the top release, some accuracy on throws, average arm strength, average hands, fluid footwork with good set up on fly balls. Offensively Dickens currently has below average bat speed from the right side and had a 71 mph exit velocity off the tee. Dickens hits from a balanced setup with a mid-length stride, gets some use out of his lower half, shows average overall balance, long/level swing path with a mid to opposite field approach. Offensive game will continue to evolve with added physical strength. Dickens went 0-for-3 in game play.
